I am going back and forth right now. All day at work I am manic..laughing and acting crazy. Then getting upset for no reason. (this is to myself not to anyone else that is near me thank goodness). Now I am at home and all I want to do is lay in the bed and watch tv. Not really depressed but I just don't want to get up. Lathargic. I have been like t his for the past few days. Last week you couldn't keep me out of the gym! Now I am like WHAT GYM? Is this typical Bipolar?

I'm not sure if it's typical or not because I don't have a Dx yet...but what you describe sounds a lot like me. One week unstoppable, then all of the sudden, just lazy.

A primary care or internist doc can also prescribe meds. You may want to see one and they can recommend a psychiatrist to you, perhaps get you started with initial treatment.

Also, you might consider therapy too. It shouldn't take as long to get in with a therapist as it does to get in with a psychiatrist.

It's best you get DXed through an evaluation by a psychiatrists before you start wondering, working yourself up with unecessary anxiety, the "wondering" can really boggle one's mind even more.
Unfortunately the media and TV,etc. keep portraying people with Bipolar in a stereotypical way, that now there seems to be an increase of people self diagnosing themselves with, possibly non existant Bipolar disorder.
I'm not saying this to be offensive, or attempting to minimize your symptoms, I'm just suggesting you have a pdoc evaluate you and be the one to decide if you meet the criteria, you may not be Bipolar or you may,a person can have several disorders at the same time, some behaviours of them can be closely similar, so a professional evaluation is important to determine this and to what treatment to prescribe.
Keep in mind there are different degrees and types of Bipolar, so nothing is ever black and white, nor is treatment plans.
Bipolar is not a life sentence, there is treatment, and with commitment, one can lead a "normal" life.
I wish you lots of luck with this, and hope you'll find some info from the others here that may be of help.

Hello and welcome to Psych Central. There is generally mental health treatment available at affordable costs for the county that you are living in at this time. Also you may want to keep a journal to share when you go in for your intake it is easier to remember things if you write it down and keep a log or journal. If you can not get in to see a Psych Dr or therapist for an intake right away call a regular physician and let them know what is going on until you get to see the Psych Dr so that the regular Dr can give you medication until that time Take care Soidhonia
