I am experiencing lithium toxicity and I am scared. Is this what getting on meds is all about? Guinnea pig?

Med titration definitely is a crapshoot. You just have to keep trying till you hit on something that works. But nobody should have let you get to the point of toxicity!
I know it's hard, but try not to let it get you down. The right meds can do wonders. It can just take a lot of work to find them. Candy |

It is wierd. My labs a week ago only showed .6. She wanted to increase a little so we went up 300 mg a day. She would have expected it to come up to maybe .8 and they shot up to 1.8 in a few days. She asked me if I took Motrin or something and I haven't. After she said to quit it altogether, on the ride home, Ithe only thing I have done different is I have been drinking those 50oz Diet RockStars. I haven't told her about it yet, I go back tomorrow. Could that have some chemicals in it that could cause my lithium to shoot up like that? I am NOT going to do depakote, scary stuff. I have been drinking tons of water and I think I feel a little better today. I have a good mind to quit it all.

I had trouble with kidney malfunction on lithium no matter how much water I drank (but it sure helped stabilize me & convinced me that I was bp & that there was help out there). There are plenty of other meds to try if lithium is not for you. They even ordered a sonogram to see if I had a tumor on my kidney that was causing the problems--I'm like, yikes, I came in here crazy not sick! No tumor. Just couldn't handle the lithium.--Suzy
