Hi––

New to the Forum: Bipolar II w/ Psychotic Inclinations, ADHD & Tourette's. I take 8 failing medications and am desperate for help.

I've lost my life to my illness––everything from selling all I own to pay debt settlements that resulted from manic business endeavors to an ineptitude toward basic life skills: bathe rarely, never brush teeth, can't cook or clean, etc. I'm 36, bankrupt, in poverty, can't hold a job, and am living in my parents' basement. This is all so hard since, up until I was 30 and diagnosed and put on drugs, I had an amazing life with a good career, money, physical fitness, etc.

I've been selected to attend a prestigious, fully-funded MFA program for Poetry. Grad school starts in 8 weeks and I'm going to have to back out if nothing changes. Grad school is all I have, my only hope.

So, is there anything out there? Any facilities that really work? I'm willing to go out of state. Mental health care in Indiana is a joke. Hospitals won't take me, intensive outpatient programs are mostly for substance abuse problems, and the ones I find don't take my insurance. It's just impossible.

I'm all ears if anybody has suggestions.

Thanks.

Welcome the PC Splitlip: Unfortunately I don't have any good recommendations for you. I just wanted to stop by & say hello. PC is a great place to find support. And there may well be other members who will have some good suggestions for you.

I do hope you are able to get to your MFA program. It sounds awesome. Personally, I'm a fan of classical Chinese poetry (Tang & Song Dynasties) which I read, unfortunately, in translation. But I love it anyway.

Good luck. I hope that you find the services you need.

What about finding a therapist that is able to see you 2-3x a week? I tend to find that there's not a lot of programs that are not duel DX. What is stopping you from going to the MFA program?

My depression has escalated to debilitation for the most part, which is jeopardizing my MFA. I'd share the details regarding how I got this low, but it's a very long story that's led to me, at 36, living in my parents' basement, too inept to work, bankrupt due to manic spending, in poverty with a dollar and change in my checking account, no savings, no portfolio, no 401k. My fatigue and apathy have led to losing my basic life skills: showering only once per two weeks, always failing to brush teeth, cooking & cleaning, etc.

I just don't know what to do. All my time is consumed by reaching out for help, but seeing that none really exists (a 5-year, fruitless search), in Indiana at least, and I'm hopeless.

And, yes, to the comment above about getting more therapy sessions. I'm seeking intensive, non-group, daily therapy, but nobody offers that in Indiana.

Thanks for reading and commenting.
