I have always been curious and I would like to know from a bipolar person's point of view. Please don't think I am being offensive!

I think hyper is just having to much energy...hypomania involves a different out of control thinking process. everything is supersized, grand and spectacular, wild. you just don't have that thinking process involved when you are hyper. or the poor judgement. hyper doesn't spend all your money or cause you to have sex with strangers. keep you up all night and day. you run out of steam with hyper. hope that answers your question.

Hypomania makes you do things like dance in the rain, clean everything that isn't red hot or running for the hills, do a weekend's worth of yard work in four hours, spend money you don't have, talk your co-workers' ears off, stay up all night writing or rearranging the sock drawer, pressure-wash your front porch for hours, throw yourself at your mate for sex (or go out looking for it), drive fast with the stereo turned way up and all the windows down, sing at the top of your lungs whether or not you can actually carry a tune, tap your feet incessantly to nonexistent music.....yeah, that's some of the stuff I've done while hypomanic.

The biggest signal for me is my sleep pattern. If I'm wide awake super late and waking up early and not feeling tired and having loads of energy? Yeah, I'm in an up.

If I'm just hyper it might last a few hours. But my hypomanias will last at least a few days.

My sleep becomes useless...I toss and turn, don't get any quality sleep. Can function pretty normal with no sleep, though I might feel tired, I can function like anyone else...

My hyperness is crazy hyperness -- like doing things outta character for even my normally hyper self. Like making repetitive noises, phrases, songs lines, over and over...silly stuff, to get a laugh, even after the laugh is done.

and I sometimes get really irritable -- not so much now that I have meds, but I did get really really ragey in the past.

Everything feels amazing and just right hen im hypomanic. When im hyper say from caffiene or other stimulants I have energy but not the euphoria I get with being hypo. Hypomanic is a good overall feeling, good and positive thoughts. Stimulants can increase negative thoughts in me.
