I have been working overnights for a couple of months. I just recently got out of the hospital due to what I would call a good old fashion nervous breakdown.

My counselors and the doc in the hospital have all encouraged me to quit. I agree that the disruption to my sleep pattern can have a bigger effect on someone with mental illness.

What do you guys think?

I agree with them. Anyone with BP can't afford to be screwing around with their sleep cycle.
Midnights can be hard on anyone, especially someone with a MI

If you are not a night creature by habit you cannot make yourself one without suffering. I prefer to be awake at night/sleep days for several decades but I am just peculiar that way.

Do you have a day/evening job available?

It does disrupt and mess up mood.

My social life has kind of died because of my overnight shift. The work is rewarding enough though. Q.Q

Sleep (or lack of!) has definitely been a big trigger for my BP. If you can find a day job instead, that would be great.

Yes sleep issues are very detrimental to people in various degrees of BP. Last year I was on a rotating schedule of 7PM to 7AM. I worked two days, had off two days. Then worked three days, off for two, then on for two, then off for three. It was complete hell. I'm still on that rotating schedule but now it's 3AM to 3PM which still isn't that great but at least I can go to bed at night instead of trying to sleep during the day.
