Hey everybody, this is my first post on here and I'm hoping I can get some good feedback from some of you. I'll try to make this long story a short one. Basically I was diagnosed with rapid cycling bipolar disorder at the age of 17, and a diagnosis of psychosis added to it around the age of 19. I was receiving medical care for these issues at the local MHMR (using my medicaid), but their service was horrible, and they chose to take me OFF of Zyprexa (knowing about my psychotic episodes). I was fed up and stopped going there. Now I have been out of Zyprexa for around 2 months, and I have not been doing well. I still take my Depakote each day, but it doesn't help me when it comes to paranoia, anxiety, delusional thinking, and most of all, strong suicidal tendencies/thinking. The only time I feel stable is when I'm drinking, which is obviously not safe and deadly. Other than the MHMR here, I'm not aware of any phycs here that accept medicaid, yet I need to see one asap. Also, while definitely realizing how bad I need to be on an anti-psychotic, I really want to find one that doesn't have massive weight gain as a side-effect, as I gained over 100lbs from the Zyprexa. I briefly tried Geodon, but it isn't very effective for me and also gives me heart palpitations. Any advise would be great, thanks.

Some clinics work on a sliding scale. You might check some of them out. Otherwise, it's back to MHMR. I'm sorry there is just not a lot out there for people without insurance. Been there.

There are more weight neutral options for antipsychotics. Zyprexa works well, but is one of the worst for weight gain. Once you find a pdoc you can talk to them about options, but a few of the newer ones are less likely to affect weight. I hope you can find some help soon.

I don't know where u live. Do you have more than 1 "clinic" type facilities? Most of our clinics accept medicaid. I would call the clinics and ask if any of their pdocs accept it. Also, I am on risperdal and have not gained any wt on it. Good luck!!!
