Hey Everyone,
I recently resigned from a very stressful job. I will loose my health insurance soon. As many of you know it's hard to get health insurance with the diagnosis as Bipolar. Open enrollment for Obamacare isn't till November 15. In the mean time my family needs health insurance till then. Mine ends in August. Does anyone know of a company (I'm in Tn) that might cover me? I've already been denied for our local State Farm. People knock Obamacare, but for me the no pre-existing is a blessing.
Thx

If your company has 20+ employees, you are entitled to extend your group coverage under the COBRA laws. You may have to pay full price however.

Also, I looked at Healthcare.gov, and I think you would be eligible to qualify for a Special Enrollment period because of your job loss.

Good luck.

I am sorry to hear the job was so stressful and hope you find something that suits you better.

Call your current insurance and get what is called a "Certificate of Coverage"; you will need that to show proof of current coverage. The advantage of that is that you will be less likely turned down for a new policy and cannot/will not be subject to preexisting condition clauses as a result, IF ALSO, you do not let your insurance lapse and find another policy before your currernt one runs out.

COBRA can be really expensive as you pointed out. I found policies at other insurance companies that were much less than the COBRA being offered. Research online or call for information packets from various providers about coverage and rates; you may be surprised at what you find.

Hope you find something soon that meets your needs and more affordable. Good luck!

I too think you are able to apply for AHC insurance though special circumstances. Its not like you didnt sign up during the enrolment period, you didnt need it then. Google the site there should be an 800 number you can call and ask.

I'm in the same boat, except I waited way too long to get the ball rolling. Stay busy and research everything to get help ASAP. The longer you wait, the harder it is, the more you get depressed, the harder it is.......I think you see where I'm going here. Use every resource you have and Good luck!
