I'm going off Seroquel, screw it! I've gained 11lbs in 2 months. I'm already on Latuda. I was given Seroquel 200mg for sleep. There's no need for me to be on 2 APs. I hate this drug. I've lost 100lbs being off of it. I'm not chancing gaining it all back. I'll risk no sleep.

Hello, Skitz13. Have you talked to your psychiatrist about this?

Why, why, why does this have to happen. It's hard enough having a mental illness, why crush the little self esteem you have left. It's not fair. I'm so so disappointed right now

No, I'm not going to bother. I'll just taper it off myself, I'm a nurse, I know how to do it properly. Like I said, I'm already on Latuda, this other crap is just for sleep.

How do you do like the Latuda? I was on it for a while. It was incredibly expensive even with insurance. I didn't feel it did anything for me. No side effects, no improvement, no worsening, just nothing.

So far, so good. No side effects at all. Just started a month ago. My pdoc just increased it to 40mg. Therapeutic dose is 80. I'm very hopeful this will work for me. Half the battle is a positive outlook, I think.

Also, my daughter takes it and has for the last 9 months and is doing amazing on it. She's a totally different person. I'm hoping that if it works for her it will work for me too

I think you're making the right decision. I hate the way some doctors over -medicate.
Best of luck!

Good luck! I'd like to get off some of my meds eventually as well. Anti-psychotics are not good for my system, and I'm on two of them, sometimes three. Wishing you a healthy tapering off process.

If you are just taking it for sleep there are other options that are not associated with weight gain. I think using seroquel for sleep is a pretty poor choice because of the potential high side effect burden. For sleep there are the Z drugs, benzos, trazodone, and amitryptiline, and none of those are associated with weight gain. There is also melatonin, which works for some people.

I do have seroquel for sleep, but the reason is because I can't take Z drugs or benzos because I get random drug screens, and those come up as positive. Trazodone doesn't work for me, and I don't want to add another antidepressant and risk destabilizing, so amitryptiline is out. I haven't tried melatonin yet, but I probably should. If you can try one of these other choices I would say go for it if seroquel is causing weight gain.

Just seconding the recommendation for melatonin. It works for me, although I recommend getting the dissolvable sublingual kind. Much safer and easier on your system than prescription sleep aids.

I hate the weight gain on depakote & seroquel. Gained 35 on dep. & 35 on seroquel. But Nothing makes me sleep other than seroquel. And I get bad seizures, so have to take depakote. Best wishes to you being seroquel free!

Even if you taper yourself off the Seroquel, make sure you tell your pdoc you're off it. They can't make proper med adjustments if they think you're on medication that you're not, and then it's a waste of everyone's time and a risk to your stability.

absolutely, I see her in 2 weeks but I plan on telling my T tomorrow and of course it will be reported. I have no intentions on hiding this but I am going to stand my ground on this.

Hi, 200mg of Seroquel is a high dosage just for sleep. Seroquel is known to be effective for sleep at 25 - 50mg.

Ya, that's what I was thinking. I'm down to 100mg and will continue down to 25 or 50. These were my thoughts exactly. Thank you

go for it! i will talk about it with my proc tomorrow. No way I am taking this thing again. 3 days were enough. There are other pills out there. And since you take latuda... you can say goodbye to this freaking seroquel
Thanks for this!
