I let my team know that I am going through a med change and may have to work from home a bit(after talking to HR) and within a month I got "let go" because while I am a great programmer, I am just not fast enough.
Life sucks, I needed that job. Now my shrink has me on watch because she watched me walk through traffic to her office not caring if I got hit. If I didn't think my wife would leave me I would check in until these thoughts go away and my meds get sorted out.

If your wife would leave you if you went inpatient, you need to get some couples counseling when you can. A loving spouse would not feel that way.
It sucks that you got fired. There should be more compassionate people out there. I wonder if you had cancer...would the same thing have happened?

That is So unfair about you getting fired. That is against the Americans with Disabilities Act. I think you could sue the company! ADA - Your Employment Rights as an Individual With a Disability

I would have to prove that they fired me for it, and being a healthcare corporation I am sure that they have their ***** covered.

I probably dont give my wife enough credit, but I know that she is getting tired of my problems. I have beed rapid cycling for a while now, I started to tell her that I thought it was a conspiracy against me last night and she kinda lost it. In her defense I have been known to come up with some pretty good delusions.

Here's where I am "lucky" that I am a combat vet. I've been diagnosed with BPII not PTSD, but I let everyone think any odd behavior is due to my experiences in Iraq. So much more sympathy.

Im really sorry about your losing your job ..Its pretty typical once you disclose that your fired for "some random reason" soon after.

As far as filing a lawsuit ADA its just a waste of time... The little guy never wins the companies have bigger badder lawyers ..

I hope your able to find a better position

So sorry to hear this

I can relate ... I'm a programmer, too, and in the past, I have worked from home exclusively (even though I live across the street from work) because of my social anxiety and lack of self-esteem.

Unfortunately, people (nons) are generally ignorant about our illness, and are unable to understand our issues.

Best wishes. Feel free to PM me.

I'm sorry. I've been through something similar, and it just SUCKS. And it's like Christina said, fighting it via the ADA is basically a waste of time and a huge amount of stress, because the corporations all have offices full of lawyers who know how to fight these things.

Please consider going IP if your depression doesn't lift somewhat. Your life matters.

The exact same thing happen to me and for the same reason- told them about a medication change and review was moved up by 7 months and given all low scores- I was too devastated to sue- could have- you should. What I did is get a job with the state which is protected by a union and can't get fired if anything bad happens to me medically... which it just did and will have to have "that" convo with boss. Good luck to you and yours!!

I just came off of med leave yesterday after 2 1/2 months. I was going thru several med changes that made me a mess, worse time ever for me. Anyway I am also on FMLA at work. My supervisor knows about my bipolar and OCD. I'm a quality auditor and my OCD slows me down because of the triple checking I do, but I'm great at my job because of this, I catch things all the time. My supervisor is so supportive and understanding. I feel so bad that you did not have that support, it's just not fair. From being on this forum for a few months now, I hear a lot of people that give 100% at that their job and it still isn't enough. For me work is a daily struggle but we all try to do our best. Good luck finding a new job, I know it's hard in this economy.
Thanks for this!
