Hey all... Question about meds and withdrawals. My bf ran out of his medication (Klonopin and Lithium) a week before his refills are due. I'm wondering what might help him get through our week easily until he's able to get his refills?? What can I do to help? What symptoms might he exhibit from this sudden withdrawal??

Thanks for your help...

I wish I could answer your questions about your b/f's possible symptoms or withdrawal, but I'm also wondering why he ran out. Surely his r/x was for one month? And, just so you'll both be aware, I think it's possible to renew a subscription 5-7 days before the renewal date on the bottle. Medicare Plan D allows this, but I don't know if all insurance does. I always, always do this, so I have plenty of extra tablets most of the time.

He can expect to feel extremely sick. It sounds like your bf is taking more than the prescribed amount of meds?

Lithium shouldnt be a big deal

However the Klonopin .. being that its a benzio your body gets use to it and if its stopped suddenly he will go into withdraw. Can be severe Flu-ish symptoms , shaking, stomach cramping nausea diareah and there is the big possibility of seizures.. and that can be a very serious thing. If that were to happen then getting medical attention asap is necessary a certain trip to the ER !

Did he run out of meds earlier due to taking more than prescribed ? if so he needs to have a talk with his Pdoc and explain what happened..

He needs to contact his Pdoc asap.

I hope he is okay

As others have stated, it's dangerous to suddenly stop taking a benzo like klonopin if he's been taking it regularly. He should talk to his pdoc, even if he's been taking more than he should, the pdoc should accept that he can't stop it suddenly.
