I hate when i become aggitated. i feel like i am losing control of myself at times with my ideas of alwasy wanting to do things or experience new adventures that its making my wife struggle and become upset. She understands that i have Bipolar and bless her heart she is trying to work this out me. i was diagnosed with Bipolar less than a year now, and i continue to struggle with whats going on around me. I know my wife tells me that as long as she supports and accepts me thats all that should matter, but in my head that is not good enough. I have parents that are not supportive tehy continue to tell me thats its all in my head and i need to stop reading into things from the internet. When i hear this come out of there mouths i become upset very easily and feel like yelling at them, but i walk away and this continues to play in my head throughout the day which causes stress between me and my wife. What should i do when this happens?
All i want is someone else who understands what i am feeling and help me. Can someone give me some advise on how to work through some of the highs and lows. |

Hi, 2014Bipolar, and welcome! I think even as adults some part of us always wants approval from our parents. But keep in mind that these folks are older and are not up on the findings about mental illness. There's probably no use to argue with them, but try to objectively consider their "ignorance" and move on. You are doing what's right for you, based on medical findings.
By the way, I am bipolar, also. ![]() |

Yeah...I think parent's want to think their children are fine and don't have any issues, mental or otherwise.
Additionally, they came from a generation where mental disorders were only known in the extreme, outwardly visible variety. People with internal mental disorders struggled internally and often failed at many things in life....people call them eccentric, or whatever else term you wanna use.... Now we know better...and we can treat it. |
