So, apparently you can't edit your thread title so the stupidity remains/ Sorry...that was a ridiculous pun to while my guitar gently weeps. I'm drinking wine (which I SO RARELY do) with no intention of becoming intoxicated (although quite enjoying the warm sensation). I am just wondering if anyone else ever does the same thing? It can't be so bad if you only do it a few times a year right? I even also took my meds tonight. Not sure what I was thinking. How bad is that? Anyone know?

lol...there really is something wrong with me tonight. I'm on a roll. Perhaps it is the wine. Yes, let's just blame it on that.

Alot of people have a glass here and there..

What you need to determine if doing so "effects" your stability.. Keeping a mood chart is a great way to look for patterns..

As you know its never a good thing to mix drinks and meds.

Stay safe and enjoy the warm fuzzy feelings

Cheers ! I enjoyed a bottle of Syrah tonight, after months of not caring for any booze.

What I've heard and experienced (to some extent), is that alcohol can amplify the effects of meds: usually, the effect is a sedative effect. Booze + benzos will make it really hard to wake up in the morning.

Once, I drank 2 bottles of wine with 8x my Prozac dose, plus 3 or 4x my anxiolytic dose, and I don't know how I'm still here ! That was a very "dangerous" (if you consider dying a bad thing) thing to do.

So, yeah, don't mix your drinks with your pills, if you wanna still be here in the morning !

It depends on what drugs you are taking. Alcohol is also a drug, and can be harmful mixed most drugs. I asked my doctor about it, and he said a drink or two here and there is fine. I am only taking lamictal, and he said as long as I don;t get dizzy or whatever it is ok.

I'm a slow learner on this one- have no idea how I'm still here. Passed out last night before I took my night meds so I guess that's a good thing.

Your title made me smile

I drink pretty frequently, and not just 1 glass of wine either, since to me the whole point is to get at least a buzz. I'm generally pretty good about not taking it too far and getting sick/passing out, though. I don't find that alcohol makes me depressed. When I drink I actually get kind of hyper and hypomanic and generally feel fine the next day.

I know you're not "supposed" to drink with meds, but no one has ever really given me a good explanation of why. I avoid taking my Stelazine when I drink because the combination makes me dizzy, but I always take my Zyprexa at bed-time. Because alcohol is a dopamine agonist it may make the Zyprexa slightly less effective, but that's not dangerous. Both my Dexedrine and cigarettes are also dopamine agonists and nobody says I can't take those with Zyprexa. Alcohol's major effect is as a muscle relaxer and GABA inhibitor, identical to benzo class drugs, which I know are safe to take with anti-psychotics.

I guess I pretty much view alcohol as another anxiolytic drug that I can use whenever I need to.

Bipolar and drinking is a horrible combination. But I feel if you are at home and you have one glass every so often its ok. I had one the other night. Well more like 1 1/2 glasses, but it was a small wine glass. ( wanted to finish off) I got a buzz right away and I had a headache for the rest of the night.

Before meds I would have a two or three glasses of wine a night. Not small glasses either. When I saw a pattern I was happy I saw some day signs and stopped. (thank goodness for common sense).

Oops stole your post.

Have a glass. If you did ok with it, your good to go. Its great to relax every blue moon.

You need to judge this for yourself....for me, as someone that used alcohol as a way to deal with my emotional issues in the past, even one beer would be too much....even a sip would be too much....

I know alcohol is a HUGE trigger for me...I do crazy stuff when drunk...unpredictable....same thing with pot or any other drugs.
