My pdoc is switching me from 50 mg Pristiq to 150 mg Effexor since my insurance will no longer cover the Pristiq. Does anyone here have experience with this switch? I'm worried about increased side effects....

Hi! My understanding is that Effexor and Pristiq are very, very similar chemically. I can't take Effexor, and I told a psychiatrist I couldn't, so I didn't think I should try Pristiq. The knot-head put me on it anyway. And I had the same symptoms as with Effexor.

for me, the pristiq was really hard to come off of. If it's possible, go off it gradually. I never had a problem with Effexor, and I might actually want to go back on it.

I was on Pristiq for a long time and felt it wasn't doing the job .. I talked to my doctor who promptly put me on a " medication vacation " for 35 days !
It wasn't too bad at first since he did greatly reduce the strength of the pristiq and other meds I was on .. but by the 4th week I was in trouble .. couldn't sleep .. very agitated, nervous and very depressed. He then put me on Effexor 75mg to start then 150 mgs after that and Seroquel ( low dose) .. What a difference in my life! So far, so good .. sure wish there was a bloody cure to this dam bi-polar crap. It literally sucks the life out of me. |

It should be no problem, since they're basically the same.
