I've been on topamax for 2 days now and I am exhausted, even on caffeine which I am sensitive to. I am on it to counteract the weight gain from seroquel. I'm am 5'3" and got up to 205 lbs a few years ago because of Depakote. Then I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and went down to 170 lbs, I wasn't on the Depakote anymore I was on seroquel. When I was 205 and 170 on seroquel I could not lose any weight no matter how hard I tried. Diagnosed less than a year ago with pre-diabetes and went on metformin, no weight loss. Went off seroquel in March and lost 30 lbs until recently when I had to go back on seroquel because no matter the medicine I just wasn't stable and I gained about 5 lbs so far so now I am at 145. My doctor put me on topamax to lose the weight, he's knows I am sensitive about the issue. I would like to get down to 125, I would be happy there. I'm just so sensitive about my weight. Growing up I had to go to the doctor because I couldn't gain weight and now these stupid meds are causing so many problems.
I am looking for people with experiences. First, like I said I am exhausted throughout the entire day, does this go away? Second, for those who happened to lose weight, how long did it take to start losing weight? Sorry everyone about this post, I know I posted about topamax a few days ago. I'm just looking for some answers. BP1/OCD/GAD Lamictal 400mg Seroquel 300mg Xanax ER 1mg am & pm Propranolol 10mg am & pm |

Two days is not enough time to have much of an effect at all on your system. The half-life is over 20 hours. I am thinking of going on this medication because Zyprexa helped me gain 30 lbs.

I went on Topomax when I was on Zyprexa 20mg a day and 70lbs overweight. My Topomax dosage was 200mg of Topomax. I felt foggy brained, and lost about 5lbs after a few weeks, but that was all the weight loss I ever got out of it. Whether it stopped me from CONTINUING to gain weight on the Zyprexa, I will never know.
I am taking 150mg of Topomax right now, along with Saphris, another AAP. I am not having any weight gain. But the Topomax makes me a little dopey. I've never felt that it made me sleepy. That about sums up my experience with it. Best of luck to you with it!

I been on topomax now six months, was on lithium for a year which started messing with me. I had been on depakote , neurontin and seroquel ect ... They didn't seem to work, and I gained tons of weight.
I seem to be on the right cocktail now, I'm on topomax 400 mg Zoloft 100mg abilify 10mg it was higher but pd decreased it. Topomax had stabalized me. I have lost 50 lbs so far. Side effects I have noticed are a bit slow cognition, tingling feet and hands. And anything carbonated tastes flat to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

First thing I noticed was that it made me feel slower. I felt like one part of my brain was trying to keep up with another part of my brain. My friends suggested it was psychosomatic because they said it was too soon for me to be feeling that. But I don't know. I do know it's been making me a little nauseated, and has decreased my appetite somewhat. When I think about it, I almost feel like I'm very mildly tripping on it. I'm quite fine with that, psychosomatic or not. The thing about a psychosomatic experience is that you still legitimately feel something, even if the physical effects aren't there. I'm wondering if the Topamax is interacting with one of your other meds, though? For instance, I'm definitely reluctant to take a Xanax now for fear of becoming too loopy on it. I have a feeling it might be the Xanax and the Topamax for you. Are you able to take the Xanax out of the equation for a day, or lower the dosage to see if that's the case? (If you're not sure, please don't do it before consulting your doctor first!)
