As some of you may know, my pdoc wanted to see if I have a sleep disorder which is the root of all evil. (I still completely disagree with her)

I had the sleep study last night and it went ok. I didn't sleep well because the technician had to come in every 5 minutes to secure the electrodes that kept popping off.

Here's the weird thing. I now have a prescription for a CPAP machine. And the reason I was told is because my snoring level indicates that I need one. I don't know if I have apnea or not, but shouldn't the doctor who analyzes the results later on make the call as to whether or not I should get a CPAP?

BTW, a CPAP is a simple (but expensive) device that pushes air into your nose or mouth which you sleep in order to keep your airway completely open and unobstructed.

I dunno, to me it's just one more PITA to worry about. I'm suppose to use it everyday, even if I travel.

arrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

I dunno, I just feel like this is such a waste.

It's BP darnit. There's no big secret to it lying somewhere behind the scenes. It is what it is, so let's just treat it.

/rant.

I'm sorry you feel this way, and how it hasn't been fully explained to you>>>
There must have been indicators to have them have you be tested with the sleep study in the first place... difficulties. And that you were given a script for the cpap (even if it was "only" by the technician?) means that you met the requirements for one... I am sure that the director over the sleep study unit reviewed the tech's report and your study results (she/he may have been the one to do the final scoring in fact) and must agree.

Remember, not sleeping well contributes to MANY problems, including heart failure and obesity.

You followed through with the study, why would you do that if you didn't want to follow through with the self care it requires? Sleep Study

Please try and do this, a good night's sleep is very valuable. It will take a bit to get used to it, but your body will love you for it.

TC!

I know...it's just frustrating. Just one more thing to worry about...

But I will do as advised.

Hi,

I had that test, too. It's not much fun...

I didn't have sleep apnea, so I don't have to use the machine, but I've heard it can really improve your quality of life.

You could try the machine, and if it doesn't help, at least you tried.

I wish you well,

January

I've been using it about a week now and am starting to get used to it. I haven't noticed any difference yet but the pdoc said it could take months.

She added wellbutrin to my cocktail of depakote and effexor. If that doesn't help she wants to add an anti-psychotic.

I have caused great pain to those close to me recently...I hope this stuff starts coming together.

Well, it's official:

Results are in and I have moderately severe to severe sleep apnea.

Looks like I'll have to figure out how to deal with this stupid machine now. I bet my pdoc will be so happy.

I don't know...it worksbut...I find myself waking up in the middle of the night anyway and staring out the window.
I end up taking the noisy s.o.b. off and sleeping in my comfy chair.
Seems like it shouldn't be so hard. Modern times...Ha!!! I'm being negative tho...

I wake up in the middle of the night too, and once I do, I can't get back to sleep with it on. I have to take it off. Oh well.

I also use a CPAP and at some point during the night I take the mask off and throw it on the floor -- without ever waking up! I don't know how it is going to do me any good on the floor.... Sleep Study

What kind of masks do you guys have?

I have the one that just covers the nose. I'm thinking of trying the one that you just insert into your nostrils.
