As I wrote in my last thread, I have lowered my prozac from 40 to 20. Something my pdoc had mentioned months ago. The past week or so has gotten worse and worse. I am so irritable, mean, antsy, and just uncomfortable in my skin. Yet all I can do is sleep every chance I get. Family is starting to mention what a bad mood I am in. I can't make myself do anything except what absolutely needs to be done (work, drive kids, etc) yet I feel like I want to do something huge and earth shattering. wtf is going on? Could all this be from one stupid little 20mg pill? If so then that pisses me off and makes me want to just go for it and stop taking all of them.

I should add that up until May I worked a day job and that kept me on a schedule. I now work nights which means I have 7 hours of open time to myself. Today I attempted to mow the lawn but when I saw that the gas can was empty I sent a mean text to my husband and instead of getting gas I just said f*** it and went to lay on the couch again.

Well, ozzy... yes, it could be the medication. I know if I forget to take one dose of my med. I begin to feel terrible. It may not seem as though this should be such a problem for you... but you've cut your dosage in half. So percentage wise, it's a fairly big decrease. But, really, this is something you should discuss with your prescribing physician. In addition to this, though, the other thing that may be going on here, at the same time, is you're experiencing feelings you had prior to going on Prozac that had become unfamiliar since you've been on it.

I know how you feel about wanting to just stop the med's altogether. But this would not be a good idea. You'll just feel even worse than you do already! Here again, consult your pdoc. S/he is the expert with regard to these things...

I probably shouldn't say this, because I'm not a doctor. But because I take prozac I've done a little research. I think prozac may be pushing you into mania, or a mixed state. SSRIs frequently do that to us.

You've torn up your kitchen, almost had an affair, and totally went off on your husband for no reason ( no gas in the can...really?? ), not to mention other stuff.
The information that came with the prozac tells you to contact your doctor if you experience increased feelings of hostility or aggression. Well...????

Prozac has stimulating properties, which is why I can only take 10 mg. if I took 40 or even 20, I would probably implode.

Hopefully you pdoc can give you some help.

By the way, prozac has an incredibly long half life. It takes over a month to clear your system. Just because you've recently cut your dosage from 40 to 20, it's still very much built up in your system.

I doubt that it is from that pill alone. You are taking two AD's, one of which - Prozac - is known to have a pronounced mania-inducing property in bipolar people. You are taking Lamictal, which is not a true MS because it mainly helps with the depressive side only. You are not taking anything that would shield and protect you from the mania-inducing qualities of Prozac. So what does the pdoc expect to happen? You are irritable and suffer from dysphoric hypomania, which is in line with the non-standard medication regiment you are on. Go back to the pdoc and complain complain complain.

I've been on Prozac now for about 6 years with no problems. I probably should never have tried to lower the dose even though my pdoc had wanted me to in the past. I guess I don't really have a question in this post. I don't know why I even started the thread.

well, you write well - succinctly and to the point - so it is easy to see what is going on with you.

The good part of it is that you possess the ability to focus well enough to lay it out on paper in a lucid, organized way. Some posters go on and on and it is hard to keep track of their thought process and see where they are going; you are clearly able to express yourself coherently. This is why I think it is just dysphoric hypo and not dysphoric mania.
Thanks for this!
