I experienced some level of mania yesterday due to lack of sleep. It never fails, once I get off schedule, I'm tired by the end of the work day but wide awake by the time for me to start my wind down routine. This means i'm so distracted that the routine is a challenge. I have a very fine line of five hours. I only got 4 on Thursday night. Last night, I almost got 5. I forgot my alarm was set. And the vicious cycle begins. I can't have another week like last week (full blown mania). I pray there is a nap in store for me today.

For the past two weeks I have had a really difficult time falling asleep and staying asleep. I have been waking up several times each night, often for 2-3 hours. I am taking temazepam, but it doesn't seem to help. If I miss my sleep, I have a horrible day being irritated about everything.

I have a sleep schedule I stick to. The other night I was going to go out with friends but I've been starting to show the beginning signs of being hypo, so I decided not to. If I'm not having any episodes and I stay up a few hours later and take my night meds later I will be in a funk for a day or so, but nothing serious.

Spent my 3 weeks on Midnights and it was horrible. So glad to start day shift again. With any luck I should never have to do Midnights again in my life... My wife has been very patient with me on Midnights... Medicine has been good for me. Episode free for almost five months. Longest stretch I've had in years.
Rambling.... Anyway my sleep schedule is pretty boring. Goto bed at 8. Wake up at 6.. Work 7 to 3.. Going to bed so early is sometimes a bummer. But I'm older now so it really doesn't bother me unless a basketball or football game is on. Dvr works! Sent from my iPhone 6 plus using Tapatalk

I have been really battling with changing my sleep patterns. When my son died last May I became a different person....staying up way late drinking. My husband recently suggested his concerns. He is right. I was totally sabotaging my bipolar disorder stability. I am trying to go to bed when my husband does. The real problem now is I don't want to get up, because the longer I sleep, the less of a day I have to face. I know that is my depression speaking..recently had a second anti-depressant added to med regime...but sleep is a nice escape.

I tried to not take my geodon this week, the nite dose, trying to save money. I usually sleep 8 hours but this week instead I have been lucky to get 4-5 and have gotten up so early it has been great! get to read the paper and do stuff. my girl friend talked me back into taking the nite dose. slept like a log, went to bed at 10 and then groggy at 8;30 am. I guess I needed the extra sleep.

Drinking is common among people with bipolar, or especially depression. I hope you have a therapist to talk to about your feelings. I lost my brother to suicide 25 years ago, my mother has never been the same. bizi you must be bipolar 2, I am bipolar 1. Antidepressants would make me manic. |

[QUOTE=loophole;4268250]Working mid nights is a flat disaster to me.. I get to go again for a month or so... F ing blows.... Get someone trained and back to 7am to 3pm.. I hate getting up early but it keeps me on a good sleeping schedule
I am a bartender so, I am always up all hours of the night. Conversely, I am a mother of a small kiddo, so I have to be up by 7 mon-fri to get her ready for school. I have always worked in the restaurant industry and have suffered from shift work disorder due to the inconsistent schedules and hours. My pdoc know all of this and basically told me to try to take my night time meds when I have an opportunity, but other than that I don't have many options... it's definitely a struggle. Anyone else in a similar situation? |
