Long story short.

I was on Seroquel XR between 50-100mg and barely felt like I could function.

Was switched to Seroquel fast release about a week and a half ago between 50-75mg at night.

Because my depression is so bad my doc wants to switch me back to XR going up in 100mg increments to between 400mg-600mg. How the hell am I going to function on that! I can understand if I was manic and it was meant to slow me down but if I'm already depressed do I really need something that's going to slow me down even more during the day. Maybe because I'm still having thoughts about s. I could ignore her advice til I see my PDOC next week but I think I'm going to run out of the fast release one before then and the script she has written is for XR. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Anyone been on such a high dose of XR for depression?

They sure love to push the seroquel it seems lol. If your bipolar that is. It does nothing for for my depression or anxiety. It does help me sleep. I went to my gdoc so I can get Zoloft. I find that helps me the most for depression and anxiety with out the zombie effect. It's the only ssri that ever worked for me. I still take seroquel IR but I cut my dosage way down. I also got a script for wellbutrin from my gdoc too

For me, mood stabolizers and antipsychotics are onlhy helpful if I'm manic or delusional. They do ZERO for me for depression and anxiety.
Thanks for this!

Yeah I really don't want to go back on XR. Prefer the fast release one at night, could barely drive on the slow release one at 100mg.

I don't like the XR either. I had akathisia [uncontrollable squirming] on it. But i like the regular release just fine -- sleep is an escape. It DOES seem odd that it's been prescribed for depression, tho.

I'm not having an issue on 150mg XR at the moment. I'm still titrating up to 300mg final. One of the things I read that has helped me is to make sure you take your dose 12 hours before you need to wake up.

FYI, It's my understanding the higher the dose, the less zombie like/drowsy you'll be. The low doses are used for sleep aid's and such. Might be worth a shot to increase up and see if it will work for you.
Thanks for this!

I'm just worried about having to drive around for the next few days in a zombie like state. Feel like I will be totally dysfunctional. I need to cart and carry my kids to extra curricular events etc and my appointment with my PDOC next Tuesday- my new one isn't that close .... Will need to concentrate on my driving and my GPS. Interesting how a higher dose could lead to less drowsiness. My GP wants me to go up 100mg per day. Yikes! When I was on the 100mg XR I was taking it at 8:30 at night and waking up at 5:30 in the morning because I was working then. Took the fast release one last night that's meant for sleep but I kept waking up every hour. Eventually got out of bed at 3am. Bleh.

Why would your Doctor want to fool around with Psych meds ? They just are not qualified for handling psych meds

Also maybe you dont need to be on such a high dose, Its best to gauge the meds doseage on how your feeling and funtioning, not on a number goal.

I'm not a Doctor but in the past when I was in a situation like this I would skip a dose here or there to just make it to the Pdoc appt.

I still havent understood why so many people are tossed on AP's for depression I get the whole "Bipolars often cant take AD"s or mania can follow" but there are other options.

I don't know what if any other meds your on.. But Maybe your Pdoc needs to review them with you and then both of you agree to a treatment plan that isn't going to turn you into a Zombie before Halloween even gets here

Be your own best advocate

I'm on seroquel xr 400mg at night but I got prescribed it for mania and now I think I'm falling into a depression. It worked well for my mania. Don't know how it's going to effect my depression.
