What does it feel like for you when you are in a mixed state?

It rarely happens to me anymore, but I would get manicky and depressed at the same time. Sometimes I would have too much energy, seemingly happy, with an undercurrent of panic. I also have Panic Disorder so my panic sometimes intrudes.

I have mixed states constantly. I am up and down at the same time or very close together we are talking minute to minute. Very often I am in what I call a manic-panic. Very overwhelming. You need to see the doc to get on meds to try to tame this some because trust me, it will eat you alive.
My Doc said to me, let's control your bipolar (I am bipolar I) and not let it control you. She is a very wise woman. Hope this helps and hope you feel better. |

When mixed I was very depressed & had extreme agitation--couldn't sit still & was crying extremely hard & long. Racing thoughts (negative ones), irritation, just plain miserable--also had delusional thinking.--Suzy

I get very panicky and on edge. I feel energetic, yet kida depressed at the same time. For me I htink mixed states feel the worse. That feeling of being panicky with so energetic and depressed at the same time takes a big toll on me very quickly.

How energetic? As if you could run a marathon? Or more like take on several new projects?
Could someone please share their thought processes during a manic and a mixed state? I would really appreciate it. I have always had a small suspicion in the back of my mind that I may actually have bipolar. I have had some hypomanic episodes, I am sure. However, I never, ever feel omnipotent. Self-confidence is always very low. I also have always needed a LOT of sleep to function. Although, I have somehow functioned on 5 hrs sleep during a few periods in my life. I have never been delusional or never had psychotic episodes. I have other features, but I am depressed the majority of the time. However, when I begin to come out of my depression, I have had the tendency (espec over the past three yrs) to "make up for lost time" when I was depressed. I throw myself back into work, school, etc..........only to completely burn myself out & eventually crash. I don't know. One other red flag is my anger. I wonder, since my anger is so intense sometimes, if that indicates a manic or mixed state (b/c sometimes my mood can change quickly back into depression after being very angry). I hope I am not in denial.......... Thank you for any feedback. Des |

Ready to conquer the world one minute, and ready to leave it the next. And when I say that I literally mean from minute to minute. As for symptoms it's similar to what others have already said. For me I was particularly sensitive when someone would try and bring me back to reality, when I had all these grand plans of what I was going to do and accomplish. Agitation and rage would follow, and eventually feelings of worthlessness.
