I use the computer as a distraction from my symptoms. This can be a very useful tool, but I have been using my computer to the point of not getting goals done and not socializing face to face. In January I am putting my computer in the closet on weekdays to simplify my life and face reality.

I feel hopeful. I hope I will read more and journal more. I hope to learn to love my bipolar brain for what it is, good and bad bits. That means I have to stop running from myself and just sit with difficult symptoms. This part freaks me out. I am hoping to learn some new tools in the process.

If you have any favorite coping skills I'd love to hear them.

Wish you well. I use my computer all day and night for coping. Not sure how I would do without it. As for coping skills, I am being taught EFT. Tapping to regulate emotions. Been using DBT. Hope it goes well and you succeed.

I can't tell you how many times I've pictured myself just throwing my laptop out the window!

There's such a fine line between coping and distraction.

My computer is a coping skill . But it doesn't distract me from going about my life and doing what needs/wants to be done.

I hope it goes well for you

I tend to hide behind my computer too. It has been a lifeline for me but I am also trying to do more activities that don't involve my computer like walking along the beach. As for coping skills I find breathing and mindfulness (meditation) helps immensely.

I'm in the software industry, so unless I go into another line of work (shrimping sounds pleasing to me) I have no choice but to be on my computer...a lot.

It seems to me that either TV shows or movies are a big part of my coping. It takes my mind off the reality of what I have to deal with in the real world. I also do box breathing when the anxiety hits. Some times it works, some times it doesn't.

For me, it's my iPhone. I'm constantly on it, playing games, on PC, googling random facts, logging in iMood, texting my boyfriend, etc. I don't know what I'd do without it.
