Hi everyone,
I was looking for an online support group for bipolar, so here I am. I just recently got this illness. After my daughter was born I came down with post partum depression which activad bipolar. It took a year to go from depression to mania and then full blown. It's been hard and still is. My husband has multiple personalities, which we didn't know about till my miscarriage. He also has bpd. My three year old son has Autism, my daughter of 21 months is having trouble speaking so we have services for her. I was a junior in college going for special ed. Now I'm at home till I can get this illness under control. I hope this will give me some ideas on how to deal with bipolar. |

Welcome and thank you for your post explaining your current circumstances.
You've come to the right place for support. We know only too well the grips of depression and mania that can interfere with our day to day ability to function. Your situation is complex due to the needs within your immediate family. Is anyone seeing a therapist to help with this? Best wishes and I hope that with the right cocktail of meds you are able to stabilise yourself so that you are able to function optimally. |

Welcome to PC! This is a safe place, and a place to get (and give) support. Everyone here "gets it" and we are able to help each other in many ways.
I feel for you, being newly diagnosed. You probably have many more questions than answers at this point. Just remember, you had bipolar before you were given the diagnosis---it just took a while to manifest itself to the point where it was recognized as such. Postpartum depression is often a catalyst for the development of bipolar---it happened to me too, though I wasn't diagnosed BP until many years after I had my last child (I had postpartum psychosis with him). I'm sorry you're going through so much at home. Stress is also a trigger for bipolar mood swings. Try to find a psychiatrist and/or therapist who can teach you ways to cope; it's worth the money. Meds are also helpful, but sometimes it takes months or even longer to find the right combination. Best of luck to you. ![]()

I have a great therapist that is helping me try to deal with this. My husband has one too. I'm trying to get a new Psychiatrist since I moved but every time I get evaluated I get told It's in my head and I'm just depressed. I don't call four days awake depressed. I had a Psyciatrist before who diagnosed me and went inpatient when I got suicidal when I didn't have my meds. I'm just resistant to the bipolar meds and the mania is out of couontrol.
