So, I am diagnosed borderline and bipolar. Borderline by x-pdoc & bipolar by current NP. I worked really hard to get borderline traits(and I had all of them) undercontrol and I have. The bipolar thing is still pretty new to me but I seem to be doing ok with it. For the last 2 years I have lived with my parents and taken care of my grandmother. I am preparing to get a job "out there". I've been applying already.

So I guess my question is how do you tell borderline parts of you from bipolar parts of you? For those dx'ed with both.

Thanks all for being so wonderful.

150mg Seroquel
PM:

My black and white thinking pertains to Borderline, and my energy levels pertain to Bipolar.

I'm bp with some bpd traits. I got a bpd dx simply from mood swings, self harm hx, history abuse and impulsiveness. My current pdoc scratched bpd off my record after lots of mood tracking. I have bp rapid cycling.

Kind of depends. When I feel the following it's definitely my bpd:

A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation

Unstable self-image

Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior

Chronic feelings of emptiness

Transient, stress-related paranoid thoughts

--------

I've deleted the bpd characteristics that don't fit me.

The symptoms that overlap I put down to bp. But hey that's just me.

If its triggered by something and or someone (usually bf / daughter) AND I can "snap out if it" with the right maneuver... Example, depression/rage caused by relationship stuff but fixed with a bunch of roses =BPD

If its random, has more than 3 symptoms, is unchangeable regardless of my tactics, and affects my energy... BP.

That's basically how I tell the 2 apart...

Doesn't help when the 1 feeds the other though, but it does help me manage.
