I know I NEED to go inpatient but I've been putting it off for a week enjoying my manic high (usually only hypomanic and with that very irritable never happy). I am a control freak and even though it's voluntary if I leave AMA my insurance requires me to pay for the whole thing. So it's really not voluntary once I'm in.

I'm terrified about going even though my therapist and I both believe I need a break from everyone and everything and to focus on myself. However, I am a control freak and don't do well with authority. I'm afraid they'll change my meds - especially my two controlled substances - Klonopin and Ambien. My therapist told me to bring the empty bottles.

Everyone I talked to from my IOP said for a hospital it was a great place.

Any suggestions to force myself to make the call, control the panic, any good stories.

My meds are still not stabilized and neither are my moods.

Help please!!!!!

i read that AMA discharges are still paid by insurance and that it is a myth that they wont pay for the bill if you discharge AMA

Thanks! Here in PA my IOP therapist confirmed they do. It happened to my friends daughter as well.

Thank you for answering

Question? What has your Pdoc done to help bring you down from mania and keep you outta IP ? Med changes ???? Are you a danger to yourself or others ?

"Most " all voluntary admits still wind up pulling a 72 hour hold.

Thanks but leaving a hospital AMA is different - you can leave.

The point of the post is more about reasons to go and actually getting myself to go and good stories not horror stories.

Thanks though

He hasn't done anything. He supports it. My therapist supports it. Not a danger to others - not really a danger to self right now while manic. I haven't been truly manic in quite a few years (didn't know I was bipolar then). This all started last week when I was in a mixed state - racing thoughts, suicidal ideation, crying, trouble sleeping, anger bordering on homicide with my son (wouldn't have done it but felt like it), pressurized speech, etc. This week is totally manic (nothing crazy) and has been quite fun. Clearly I am not stable and need help.

I get he supports your need for IP, But normally a Pdoc is going to make some kinda med adjustment to try and slow things down, even if a lil bit.

IP will most likely be a med change or increase type deal and Therapy sessions day in and out.

Keep you and your family safe

Thanks so much. It's my fault my PDoc hasn't changed anything - I texted him I was going IP and he told me to call him when I got out. I didn't tell him I didn't go yet

I'll keep everyone safe. They actually are enjoying me right now except my husband is getting annoyed with my online shopping sprees.

Thanks Christina. It sounds like it would be worth it.

Inpatient was very definitely worth it for me. I went in on Halloween and stayed for a week. During that time I got intensive therapy and a couple of med adjustments in which I had input.....my IP psychiatrist was a lot like my own pdoc, and consulted with me as to what I was willing to try. The atmosphere was reasonably pleasant and even the food was good. We had access to a tablet at the nurses' station during the evening hours after groups were over for the day, so I was able to keep up with the outside world. All in all, it was a surprisingly good experience for a psych hospitalization, and I'd do it again if I were ever to find myself in a similar situation.

You are very welcome. Not all hospitals are great, but it's worth going in when your life is out of control due to your illness. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Well of course now that I've decided I want to go I can't get a bed. They just keep saying to call the next day. Shouldn't you be able to get on a list so that it goes by those who have called in order?

At this rate I'm never getting in. I don't want to be in there for Christmas. Ugh!!!!!!

hi

u want to go in here is my best help
Pennsylvania • Psychiatric Hospitals & Medical Centers • PA
list of all the hospitals in the state for u if one is full call the next one closest too u

the link is old they updated the name so when u click it .......go to the top click the dps or what ever it was change too dhs....click enter the link will get u to the info about the place and numbers plus other info about stuff u will want to know

once u commit yourself u are in there until u want to leave ..........if u say anything that causes them fear to let u leave u have right to file notice with the Medical director and talk to them to a dress what they say is the reason they do not want to release u .......u signed self in as long as u are sane not wanting to hurt someone or self they can not hold u .....ask for the forms to leave

good luck
