I was wondering if any other girls on lamictal have had this...

I've been on lamictal since september this year, i started on 25mg & slowly uppedyself under doctors orders to 75mg with no dramas

When i went back to my psych, he upped the dosage to 100mg & i was also put on stelazine for rage that i seem to have no control over & feel like its tearing me apart!

Anyway, since ive been on 100mg of lamictal, i have not had my period yet...i havent had one in over 2 months now & am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?? =\ it happenend last year when a doc changed my contraceptive pill but i changed back over to my original after 2 months & no sign of a period...eversince everythings been fine & normal but now since the upped dosage i seem to be experiencing it again...does anyone know if lamictal can cancel out the contraceptive pill by any chance?

I have always been told it can affect it. I would check in with the dr who prescribes your bc.

I just had a rough period mental state wise, but I'm not sure if Lamictal aided in it or if it was just a coincidence that period happened during a downswing.

I was put on lamictal in early August and did not have a period until November. there were no other explanations for it. my pdoc told me its not a side effect but I've heard of it happening pretty often. I'm pretty sure its the reason for the missed periods but it never hurts to get checked out if it would make you more comfortable about it

My next appt with my pdoc is in january on the 4th, so not too far away, i think i'll just grab a preg test just incase in the meantime & keep an eye on it...i do get a little promiscuous when im in my mania/hypomania, but havent been as full on with it in recent times because of certain things that have happenend, i've had trust issues from being physically/ sexually hurt by a guy back in july but i guess i'll just look at all avenues just to make sure, thankyou for all of your answers! I really do appreciate all of your help! A question for females on Lamictal

Hi there sickcyclecarousel

I'm also on it and to answer your question- no, I have not had this happen.

It's good you're going to keep an eye on it and good luck with the pdoc.
Thanks for this!

PS the point of my message is: you are on a mostly benign mood stabilizer - Lamictal - and on a heavy duty old school AP - stelazine. I would suspect that the missed periods is an AP's side effect first, before trying to implicate Lamictal.

Hi I'm on 200mg lamotrigine daily. When I upped from 100 to 200 I missed my period. No question it was the lamotrigine

I had a talk about this with my psych 2 days ago & was told that the stelazine may have elevated a hormone that my contraceptive pill doesnt, i had a blood test to check for elevation in the hormone prolactine, if its elevated, the anti-p has to be changed, if not elevated i'll have to keep trying to fix this issue...

SCC,

From my experience and what I've read stelazine is an old AP rarely used any more bc of bad side effects. Methinks you'll be better off soon. Best Wishes.

some APs that inhibit dopamine (like the one ur on) can raise a hormone in ur body called prolactin, which can make ur periods irregular or go away completely

just saw ur post about ur pdoc saying the same thing i did. there are ways to combat the elevated prolactin levels but it involves taking other drugs like abilify or metformin along with the stelazine

I have been on 100mg of Lamictal for about two months now and I've still had my period but they've been VERY light. I've always had heavy periods, but that doesn't seem to be the case right now.

When I started Lamotrigine my period went a bit off; coming early, late - heavy, light. Three months on it seems to have settled down back to normal.

Never had a problem with my periods. I take 300 mg of lamictal. But sounds like it might be a side-effect of one of the meds you are taking. Our bodies react differently I guess.
Thanks for this!

Yeah thats very true Homeira! I did finally get my period again on new years day of all days haha! But didnt last long & wasnt that bad which was surprising! I was expecting to be curled up in a ball with the pain from not having it for 3 months haha! Its amazing what happens & what our bodies do when it comes to medications! I have tried many many anti D's & anti P's and my reactions to some of them, especially to most anti D's have been shocking!! Too many bad reactions makes me feel like im losing hope sometimes trying to find that balance i've been longing for, forever! But hopefully things will look up soon! I've found massive relief. Not right away. At first I felt legit crazy. I don't know if I was on the downswing, but I cried for like a week straight. But after about 3 weeks of taking this dose I felt a big change for the better.

Oh thats great to hear that you have found a big change for the better! I still had nothing with the 100mg so its been upped to 150mg now so hopefully some improvement soon!!! Im so scared sometimes that im never gonna find that balance & will feel like this forever A question for females on Lamictal but can only keep trying! My psychiatrist has also suggested for me to start seeing a psychologist & to do an anger management course with them so my rages arent so split second impulses anymore...it happenend again today, i punched the back of my office/computer chair without thinking that its made of metal A question for females on Lamictal instant regret, my hand is so sore & definitely think theres a bit of bruising & knuckles are swollen again! The way im going, i'll end up with screws in both hands at this rate! Its so constant! Also i suggested hypnotherapy to my psychiatrist & got the nod in agreement on that one! I think i've repressed something & honestly have no understanding of where this all comes from but its been happening most my life, i feel like i need answers so i can better understand all this & myself A question for females on Lamictal

I had anger-issues untill i started taking 300 mg of Lamictal. Any lower dose would not help me. But I also had a bit of cognitive therapy. I think it has made me a calmer person. ( I think...)
