I just went to see a new psychiatrist (different city), and he said that he thought I may be bipolar II (hypomania) rather than have major depression (previous diagnosis).

I am confused...
I have had racing thoughts in the past (which I thought was anxiety). At a different time, I took St. john's wort and organized my apt, called pple I hadn't called in awhile, was talking quickly, and did a million things - felt like I was on speed for 2 days, until I stopped taking St. John's wort. However, I never had that with any other anti-depressant meds (on celexa right now). I have also never had that without medication...

What do you think? confused...

It's hard to say. If I were dx myself, I'm closest to BP II. But that doesn't cover it all. You can be somewhere in the BP spectrum even if you don't fit the exact criteria that's found in the DSM.

I was originally dx'd with major depression. All the SSRI's I've tried and SNRI's have pooped out. I also have noted that after reading the symptoms of hypomania; I've definitely had episodes of that in the past; I just didn't know it at the time.

The two meds that have helped me the most are depakote (mood stabilzer) and wellbutrin (different kind of AD)

Also, I've learned it's hard to get a Doc to tell you an exact Dx; because the DSM is so limited and the reality is that it's really hard for them to put people in any one category.

My feeling is that you may want to explore how you are feeling now. Does your pdoc want to try you on a mood stabilizer?
How do feel about all of this?
Are you feeling better with the celexa?
what are you doing currently that suggests to your pdoc that you may be bp2 except for your reaction to st johns wart?
having any irritablity or agitation or agression? this could be dysphoric mania if you were....just something to thikn about. I have not read thru your history here so forgive me if I am asking tomany questions.
