I've only had one visual hallucination that I know of. It's possible I've had a few auditory ones.
I really don't read many threads about this, so it's making me question my diagnosis. Again.

What are you questioning about your diagnosis? Most importantly, how are you feeling?

When I had a psychotic break- I had a number of hallucinations and delusional beliefs. They suck. I don't wish them on anyone.

Yes, I randomly have hallucinations. I don't have them all the time. I have auditory and visual but not always together. I often see a man in my house wearing a white and blue striped shirt and a blue jeans. Also once I saw a woman in a pink, yellow, and green striped sweater with blond hair sitting in the back seat of my car. The weirdest one I've had was an entire playground.

My auditory ones are usually just noises. Sometimes they are sounds on top of sounds. Example once an ambluance was driving by, but instead of a siren it sounded like a man screaming but amplified as loud as a siren. I often hear someone stomping their feet or walking around behind me, and when I turn no one is there. Also sometimes I hear whispers. Once I heard a man's voice say "HEY!" but like the person was right next to me whispering loudly in my ear.

I try to ignore them when they happen.

I see things mostly when I am driving Lightening mostly, but sometimes people walking along the road towards me. I also see smoke a lot when going through automatic doors. I have recently been having olfactory hallucinations, this thread made me look into it. Not common, doesn't seem real good either.

I've heard commentary, arguments, conversations, little children singing etc...

For a week or two I heard people screaming obscenities at me (made it hard to actually hear real people)... Yeah I hear alot of shyt at times, I usually just laugh it off

I sometimes see smoke coming from random objects that are not on fire, I've seen my PC screen "lift" and rearrange the contents (I was amazed), I've seen quite a few things, but those 2 stand out Lol

Smell, always rotting flesh, I've never had a different olfactory hallucination.

Tactile, bugs crawling under my skin and in my brain...

So yes, I do get hallucinations, for the most part they don't really bug me. Except I hated the bugs, they're crazymaking, and those screaming women were kind of distressing to be honest.

Yes, but only a few *significant* ones. Most have just been little lights buzzing all around.

More times than I can count my hands have swollen to the size of bowling balls and felt as heavy.

I once saw the Troll from the movie 'cat's eye' walk out of a small door in a wall.

I know what I saw and felt and I know it couldn't be real... but I know it happened!

Why do you feel your diagnosis might be wrong? Bipolar doesn't always involve psychosis. Does it seem to fit your symptoms otherwise?

Everyone is different. I do get psychosis - but with the depression rather than mania. Mostly I see people, sometimes strange creatures, and spidery things going up the wall (yuk). Sometimes I hear voices. Sometimes paranoid delusions.

I have had a couple of visual hallucinations but the worst are the audio ones. I once thought someone was reading me an entire Sandra Brown book. My pdoc had to tell me that no one was reading me a book. I was so out of it he put me in the hospital to dose me up on antipsychotics.

Twice and both on Depakote. Outside of that, no. I thought it was part of the disorder, but several years later I started questioning it and looked up hallucinations as a side effect of Depakote. It is a side effect of Depakote, albeit a rare one. I had them in the first month of being on Depakote. Apparently my brain adjusted later. I am not on Depakote now, for other reasons. The hallucinations were very interesting.

I have auditory hallucinations during manic episodes---usually it's classical-type music or voices talking over the ones on the TV or radio. And I saw black and grey cats running under the linen carts in the ER when I went in for suicidal ideation. I'd never hallucinated during depressive episodes before. Weird.

I cannot speak to the issue of grey cats, no. No experience, sorry. But I can speak to the issue of black cats. My black cat would rush to a linen cart for sure. When I lay clean linens on a sofa, who jumps right on top of them? Tommy. When I bring a hamper full of clean clothes from the laundry room, what does Tommy think of the purpose of my washing the clothes? Correct - so that he would jump on top of them and make a nice cozy bed for himself. Why do you think linen carts exist IN REALITY? So that cats can run under them or climb on top of them. That it the TRUE reason linen carts exist, and anybody who thinks otherwise is delusional .
Thanks for this!

Just the other day I clearly heard a friend call out my name but he was not there. Many times in the past I have heard my name called or heard a voice talking to me only to find that, after investigation, there was no-one around who spoke. Often I hear TV's and radios that are not on, or music in the background. Only a couple of times have I seen things that were not there, like bugs all over the floor or people walking by. Mostly the hallucinations haven't bothered me much but a couple of times I was seriously freaked out by them.

Mine are generally auditory but I have had visual, just a few moments ago I saw a cat cross the floor. I have not well for a month and my GP had to set me up for a pdoc review. She asked me about the auditory ones and being on the verge of mania I was telling her wonderful they are because they ask me question, argue amongst themselves. I said it was like having talkback radio in your head. I also see small spiders that i believe govt has put microcips in and the crawl up your nose and take over your brain

I tend to have a lot of auditory hallucinations sure mania, which get worse the longer I am awake. I have fallen asleep to be woken up by someone whispering in my ear, torn my house apart because looking for someone because i was home alone and could hear them breathing. I see shadows darting out of my view when i try to find the source of the voices, and constantly hear people talking behind me, even when no one is there. I was recently put on haldol which has stopped this as well as allowed me to sleep..

When I'm really tired (which is all the time lately), I hear music playing very softly. This usually happens when I'm listening to white noise. The only thing that bugs me about it is I can't tell what song the voices are singing!

Usually hallucinations kick in during the times where I'm either not sleeping or only getting an hour or 2 a night. The other day there was a black cat running around and disappearing (funny as I saw black cats mentioned in this thread lol) I see the shadow people too. Close my eyes to try and sleep and saw what looked like the grim reaper and his shadowy hand coming down at me.. yeah opened my eyes pretty quick after that.

I don't know what's worse, the ones you see with your eyes closed or open?

Auditory ones I never have people actually talking TO me (so far) but more like having conversations within themselves or a radio going non stop even if I put ear plugs in. They've been a lot more prevalent lately, but I'm also waiting to be medicated again and it's mania town for me.

Yes. Monstrous faces after childbirth, cartoon figures exiting the tv screen and entering the room, a man who parked in the street approaching my house with a sawn off shotgun.

Hearing the voice of God telling me to do bizarre things...hearing demons telling me to kill myself. Also, seeing visions of Jesus coming on the clouds or coming to me. Feeling the hand of God. All of this happened during a psychotic break; I don't have them in my day to day life. The delusions are much worse and some of them are absolutely terrifying.

I don't think whether you do or you don't have hallucinations effect your diagnosis.

I had hallucinations when they put me on a blood thinner that reacted with one of my psych drugs. They weren't sure which on so they took me off all of the psych drugs as I had to keep taking the blood thinner for a serious blood clot.

At the time it was just confusing but when I realized I was hearing and seeing people that weren't there, I really got scared. Fortunately, it only took a short time for me to go back to normal but it was a long five days.

Umm I saw really weird stuff when I was taking Ambien. My pdoc back then said I was hallucinating.

Only thing I have seen now is inanimate objects moving but my pdoc doesn't seem to care.

My entire vision ripples with objects and reality moves in different directions while symmetrical shapes morphing in a kaleidoscopic way visually in the air change. It's worse when I'm manic.

When I was 6, I seen iron filling people roaming the halls with throbbing black masses and walking pirates. I see it as my first acid trip!

I take an AP but won't take much more because it knocks me out for too long.

I've had a few I think. I saw the spirit of a man in my bedroom about 3 in the morning. At first I thought someone had broke in our house. Then he disappeared. I have frequently heard noises and notice odd smells in my house, which I considered to be a haunting. For years I truly believed these to to be real. On another occasion I heard a voice telling me that a certain family member was going to die and he did. Looking back on these things I am starting to doubt the reality of them. When the psychiatrist asked if I was having hallucinations I said no, because I believed these to be real and didn't cross my mind.
