Seroquel XR was not for me. I prefer Risperdol, Abilify, and especially Latuda. Don't get me wrong though. It's a fine drug and helps many.

The TD risk with atypical anti-psychotics is very very low. Permanent TD is super rare.

I was on it for several years as an as-needed med and it worked great. Especially for mania and helping with sleep issues. Dr tried to have me use it everyday and that didn't work well. I ended up too tired and not able to function so they pulled me off.

TD is a serious side effect but you will notice pretty fast and if your dr can get you off of it quickly you should be fine. I've had it with 3 different meds and after a few days off of them, went back to normal.

Good luck.

I got TD after taking atypical antipsychotics for less than three years. It may be permanent. Before I took the drugs, they told me it was rare and you only got it if you took these drugs for many years. Not true. I have been in contact with many people who have got it, one was exposed to the drugs for just weeks. You are more likely to develop it if you are female and older age, but the worst affected person I know is 32.

If you are on these drugs you should make sure the psychiatrist looks out for symptoms so that changes can be made as soon as first sign shows. Unfortunately sometimes the drugs mask the symptoms and it only is seen on dose reduction or stopping th drug.

I got a tick from seroquel. I immediately stopped taking it. If I had a psychiatrist I would have called. It luckily went away. I'm on zyprexa now.

It worked well for me but made me waaaaay too tired. I couldn't function at work. So I had to stop taking it unfortunately.

My doctor just added Abilify to my list of meds. Has anyone taken this? I was reading the list of side effects and got a bit nervous.

I take 400mg of Seroquel along with 2 other medications. I haven't taken Seroquel XR. I need the Seroquel in order to sleep. I haven't had any issues with it but the XR may be different.
