I haven't been sleeping well. Yesterday, I have an hour long workout regimen and I also walked 5 miles (can't run much). I took my AP last night and got my almost 8 hours in. It started to be 6, but I laid there in the dark and dozed on and off for a few more hours. I normally get about 5 hours a night.

How do you get decent sleep?

At the moment I can't sleep more than a couple of hours without Olanzapine (Zyprexa) as I am hypomanic. My pdoc recommended I take the med at the moment to at least get 6 hours sleep a night as the more nights you go with little sleep the more likely your mania is going to intensify.
When I am depressed I find it difficult not to sleep and often get 12-16 hours a day. When i am wonderfully normal (a rare event) I tend to be happy on 7-8 hours. Along with all this I do several things to try to aid my sleep such as regular exercise (I swim), meditation, regular waking and going to bed times, healthy diet etc

I had a doc say he can prescribe me a sleep aid. The problem with that is tolerance, and then when you quit you won't be able to sleep, so I said noway. Besides, I eat enough pills anyways.

The only way I can sleep is Seroquel, otherwise I only get about 2-3 hours of sleep and we all know what happens when that keeps going on. Even being on 400mg I sometimes have to pop some Benadryl when I'm on the up swing.

Sorry you guys are struggling with it. It's so important for stability.

Here are my sleep essentials:

1. Burning off energy during the day.
2. No caffeine after noon.
3. Filling dinner w not much sugar.
4. Relaxation and breathing.
5. Big super comfy bed and mattress.
6. Clean comfy clothes.
7. Ideal room temperature and ventilation.
8. Consistent bedtime routine w precisely timed meds.

Hope these help.
