It's funny because I had my first diagnosis when I was 24 yrs old.

Does bipolar disorder exist in children?

I think it's possible that it exists but with young children it's to hard to diagnose. They usually don't diagnose it in young children because of that. At least, I think I'm right on this. Maybe someone else is more knowledgeable.

I had death wishes when I was 10, and fell into my first clinical depression at 13. Of course no one was diagnosing kids with mental illnesses back then, but I was taken to different doctors who put me on pills that made me nauseated, tired, or wired. I suppose they were antidepressants. Eventually I climbed out of the pit and the drugs went away. But I think that was the beginning of my bipolar illness.

I wasn't diagnosed until age 43. My T and I have traced back my first symptoms of Bipolar to age 6. Yes 6. First suicide attempt at age 9.

No one diagnosed Bipolar or really any mental illness back in those days when it came to children.

First attempt was when i was 7 but it was unrelated to bipolar but I did show definite symptoms when i was a kid. It got really bad around 12.

I never tried when I was that young, but the desire was there for me around the age of six. There's definitely something taboo about a child that feels that way...

I was 10 or 12 the child services and school both wanted me to see a shrink, but mom told me that she would give me away before she would pay.

I didn't understand the concept of suicide at the age of 8 but I knew what it was.

if it makes you feel less alone, the first attempt at my life was at a young age too.

9, in fact.

as strange as it sounds, i knew exactly what i was doing. (i knew the seriousness of it all)

when i talk about it now, people still say to me.. how do 9 year olds know the seriousness of something like that

well all i can say is.. some people just do

if their's really an issue
