The first one I called was mislabeled in the insurance directory... they gave him an MD instead of a PhD. So, I called the University of Iowa. I had to give the nurse a rather brief history... she in turn refered me to another private p-doc, because the U is scheduling 60 days out for people who have already recieved a diagnosis and are just "switching" docs, and with my past history of not wanting to be diagnosed... she made it out to be me searching out a second opinion... I'm not, tho... I'm finally admitting to it... ugh! But anyways... I go see my new p-doc two weeks from today... which means I have to actually go to bed without screwing around on myspace. Oh well!

I am glad you found a pdoc. I hope both of you get along well. Good luck. Let us know what they are like.

Psyhiatrists do have "M.D." after their name, you mentioned they had that labeled instead of a PhD.
I'm confused, are you looking for a psychologist or psychiatrist?
If you are looking for a therapist, there are some usually not pyshologists, but licensed social workers who majored in psychology and sociology, but not are not technically psychologists. Psychiatrists are M.D.'s that specialize in psychiatry, and can write prescriptions. I think in just a few or just one state, psychologists can now write prescriptions. GP's really can't substitute for a psychiatrist, personally I feel GP's are handing medications way too freely for the kind of meds that should be prescribed by a psychiatrist, a person who can follow up correctly with therapeutic dosages, and disorder in my opinion, GP's should just stick to what they majored in, "general medicine/family practice" that's only my opinion, and respect what ever other people feel.
I hope you'll find what you are looking for and stick with some form of treatment.
Lots of luck,
DE
