I know you are quite educated on your illness and seem to have decent insight (from your posts) but I wonder why you rejected the BPD when it is possible for that to be cured with the right support and therapy? Do you not think that may influnce your mood shifts and behaviour? I know here they will use the meds for BP but the BPD needs specific therapy, and personally I know around 20 people who were cured of their BPD diagnosis through therapy, now living med free and productive lives (at least half of these people were apparently comorbid BPD and BP but magically the BP went away after the BPD treatment). I have also read reseach papers on the success of DBT in treating BPD.

Not suggesting this is the magical cure for you but interested to know why you reject it when it could be a factor in your moods. I have no doubt you also have BP.

Please dont take this as accusatory, Im genuinely interested as I am so surprised at the amount of people that voted BP1 rather than comorbid BPD and BP when there are quite a few that exhibit enough symptoms (just from their posts on the forum) for BPD. Of course Im not a doctor so not presuming to diagnose people at all but I am just so surprised by the poll results.

Why is it that people will describe themselves as BP first and BPD second (or even dont acknowledge the BPD)?

Until last year I was bipolar NOS. Then I had my defining episode that got me rediagnosed with bipolar 1. In the hospital they added the depression specifier; they probably should've stuck rapid cycling on the end, but it doesn't really matter because it all sucks.

Well iI'll answer this question as it applies to me.

I describe myself that way because that's how the doctors always do it.

I have access to my files

BP is my primary dx, as it affects every aspect of my life. The BPD was dxd over a year later, and not only does it only affect my closest relationships, it can and has at times, fuelled my BP.

So that's my explanation, I don't minimize my secondary dx, it just is a secondary dx. I hardly mention the fact that I have OCD as it only poses a problem while in the midst of an episode and is otherwise completely manageable.

I am BPD and BP.

But the pdoc is treating me for BP.
Because BPD doesn't have meds that will help it. Only meds help the symptoms.

Lithium 1500mg
Risperidone 3mg x2
Hydroxyzine HCL 25mg x3
