So, if you guys remember, after suicidal thoughts, my husband rushed me to my PDoc. After months of fighting Lithium, I have finally succumbed...I was so desperate that I did not care anymore.

After only two doses, my husband notices a big change in my behavior. The crying and emotional outbursts have stopped. It have been a miracle drug (so far). My husband even said that Lithium brought his wife back (me).

I'm dealing with the side effects, mainly fatigue and sleepiness throughout that, but so far so good. I know it might be too early to tell, but we noticed the results almost immediately. The restlessness still comes and goes though, but not as bad as before.

Anyone on Lithium here?

I used to be on it but got Lithium Toxicity and ended up in the ICU for a week so I'm not on it anymore, it didn't really work for me anyway. The mood stabilizer I'm on now is Depakote and its working great. Glad you've found something that helps you

I am on it and flat as could be. Part of that is good, but I need an ad to lift me from the bottom.

Medication is so confusing. Do we take pills to counteract pills? Are we taking pills we don't need bc we don't know what they actually do in our coctails?

I am so glad you are feeling better. In high school I had a great combo of lithium and pamelor (old school ad). I would like to try that again but weight gain from pamelor was crazy.

Thank you for sharing this with us sleepless.

Yes, for some that I know personally, Lithium is certainly lives up to its name of "Gold Standard" treatment of Bipolar.

It has been around for quite some time now.

I am very happy to hear that this is an effective medication for you.

Take care.

I'm also on lithium at 800mg. I've without a doubt noticed an improvement in my mood and so far I'm very glad I've tried it. I didn't want to take lithium personally but I can't deny the improvement its given me.

Side effects suck. Fine tremor and feel a little ill but frankly I feel more balanced now than at any point in the last 15 years.

Glad to hear you are also having success on lithium. From what I'm reading, if it works and you can tolerate the side effects/ levels ect, it REALLY does work.

I take lithium too and am so incredibly conflicted about it.
While my life is markedly more stable, I'm still not happy about taking it. I find myself feeling incredibly flat. Reading(one of my favorite things) is harder. I find myself going over the same paragraphs again and again to absorb them. I definitely feel dumber, searching for words and memories in the middle of speaking.I get nauseous all the time. I'm not on a particularly high dose either. I take 900mg. After my last horrible suicidal depression and flip into wacky nutty mania, we upped it to 1200. That was PURE HELL. I could barely even function, and my face immediately covered itself in acne. Mustering anything to say was impossible. I had to go back down to 900 and up my lamictal to bridge the gap.
I keep taking mini vacations from the lithium. Like five days at a time. I shouldn't do it, and I'm trying VERY hard not to. I'm two weeks strong with no breaks. That sounds silly, but it's an accomplishment. Obviously, I'm having a hard time with it.
The up side, much like you, people in my life have noticed a big difference. Also I'm not regularly ruining my life(mania) or hating it (depression).
I hope it is a miracle drug for you. These drugs effect us all differently. Stability is the important thing.

My P.doc started me on Lithium last night
I was son Lamictal until then
I've fought taking Lithium for years, but Lamictal is not working so I don't have
a choice

Lithium scares me

Happy for you. I am also on lithium and it has made such a huge difference in my behavior, however I still have the occasional slip-up in my recovery. I have not experienced any of the negative side effects others talk about like hand tremor, but I did recently start taking a new med to help my slightly underactive thyroid due to the medication. In the end I think it's worth it to live a more stable life.
