I'm not a Dr., but I think it all comes to intent of either. Suicidal thought of both kinds you mention rattle round many of our heads, depressed or manic, everyday. Most Dr's will ask if you've planned things out. But either way, if this is happening to you you should mention it to your PDoc/therapist.

Hi bipolar2007. Sorry to hear you may be having suicidal thoughts. I think all the things you mentioned can be those kinds of thoughts.

If you are having them and feel tempted to act, call a telephone hotline. see here
Psych Central - Search results for Hotlines

If you have thoughts and are worried, having a safety plan is an important preventitive measure. It can include having hotline numbers. Here is a link to safety plan:
Suicide Safety Plans | Channel N

If you have a therapist or psychiatrist, contact them immediately especially if your medication has been adjusted or changed because some meds react negatively with some people and may have to be modified.

Please feel free to private message any of the Community Liaisons by left clicking on the name in blue to the left of their post) for questions or just to share.

They all are, just different levels of severity. You should nip it in the bud to keep it from escalating.
