I always have trouble telling these two apart. If I'm in a relatively "normal" mood for most of the day but still have racing thoughts/pounding heart/tremors etc. then it's probably anxiety, but if it happens during a mixed/hypomanic episode I can't tell!

You actually answered your own question. Mixed/manic states can cause the same symptoms of anxiety. Either way you want to let your pdoc know if you are experiencing one or the other.

Most likely anxiety. How long does it last? Longer than 4 days straight all day all night in a row makes it a mixed state, any less means it is likely anxiety
