It is called pharmacogenetic testing..they take two samples by swabing both sides of the insides of u cheek with q tips..results n bout two weeks..they are able to tell if your body will or won't accept a big Ol list of meds..and how fast your body metabolizes..the slower the metabolic rate..the more side effects predicted..ya still have to watch for side effects..but it can save ya a whole lotta trouble eliminating ones the paperwork says adverse reactions to..the other swab is to check your serotonin receptors..in my case I have a gene that makes depression difficult to treat as well as another gene that won't process ssri's..
Thanks for this!

That sounds like it could be very beneficial to have this test run. I may check into it next time my current meds quit working (and they always do at some point).

Thanks for sharing.

My psych offered to do this but I turned it down since it was going to be fairly expensive. Maybe I should go back and do it after all.

That test would have been nice awhile back for me. My body didn't metabolize Latuda right and I was a mess and ended up on med leave for 2 1/2 months. I've had problems since July, and I believe it's from that nasty drug. Does it tell you what ones you are allergic too? I've been allergic to five medications already, so I'm hesitant when it comes to trying new meds. Thanks for educating us!

My old pdoc told me she thinks I have a metabolic reason why anti-ps don't work well for me but we opted not to do a test cause my insurance would def not cover it and its expensive. Hopefully in the future, more people will have access to it.

I too had this done through genesights, it cost nothing out of pocket for me! Although I did have this done, I have taken medication on my " take as directed" list and had horrible reactions to it. I took one with only mild reactions, so I am still leary of this! But I do stay clear of the yellow and red colums!
