I would like to know what lies you guys tell to keep the people around you from get tired of/mad at you for being anxious or sad all of the time.
For instance, sometimes I will start crying at work if I mess something up or get too overwhelmed. I feel like an idiot when I cry while I'm waiting on people , so if they notice or ask me what's wrong, I will just tell them I have allergies. It is harder to fool my husband at home though, and I would like to learn how to get better at faking it. What lies do you tell to get through the day without then having to deal with the added stress that you're bumming everyone around you out?

(((Espurr))) I have been brutally honest with my family. They know when to stay or run!!!
![]() Work is a little more difficult. I usually try to do my work quietly and independently focusing all of my energy on my customers so that I really don't have time to think about myself. If I really feel myself going down, I'll take a mental health day off from work. ![]()

I lie about how depressed I am. I will always say "I'm fine" or something very similar when asked "How are you?" Even by family or my therapist. I lie to my therapist about how much intent I have about my plan as well. I'd rather not be put back in inpatient...

If I get the blues at work I go to the bathroom and cry, and afterwards with the red eye thing I tell people I have allergies too. Most of the time no one asks, but I mostly work alone.
With my husband I'm just honest though. He knows I get emotional for no reason sometimes.

"I have a headache" and "I'm tired" I've said these so many times I've manifested them into my reality. I don't recommend it.

I tell them that I have a physical ailment or am exhausted from working long hours. I all tell them that all is well with me and that I am just preoccupied with work.

Thanks, guys! These are all so helpful. The bathroom is my refuge pretty much wherever I am, though I had forgotten it. It's good to keep in mind that no matter how bad things get, I can retreat even for just a few minutes. I have told people I had migraines when I didn't (mainly to call in at my last job which was much worse than my current one), and I'll have to keep that one in mind. If I ever get contacts again, saying I had a migraine would allow me to get away with wearing sunglasses, which also helps with my social anxiety to some degree, I've noticed. It makes the other person noticeably uncomfortable which then makes me feel as though I'm on equal footing with them.
