Don't you just hate it when you try to describe your pain to a loved one and they lecture you on how ungrateful you are???

totally .... yes I can relate .....

ughhh I guess people just respond differently and not always in the manner in which we hope -

I usually find different strategies during times like this to help manage my feelings and cope with my emotions ....

Music?
A good book?
Taking dogs for a walk?
Favourite film?
......

I hope you feel okay soon.
Thanks for this!

They just don't know. They can not know. Unless you have bipolar. Sorry

Thank you! I've really been struggling lately with a bad depressive episode, and the only person I have to talk to is my T for an hour once a week. I just wanted to confide how lonely and invisible I feel most of the time. Yeah, no one has walked in my shoes, but still....is a little compassion too much to ask for?

Right now I feel like I'm dying inside with the need to be heard. But there's no one out there. :-( If a woman screams in the woods with no one around to hear her, does she still make a sound?

No. It is certainly a good thing to show compassion. I am sorry you feel badly. I am right there with you in a depressive episode and it sucks.
Thanks for this!

I understand completely. Its gotten so bad that when family calls i lie and say im doing fine and try to end the call quickly just so i can avoid another heartbreaking lecture from people that should practice what they preach! (Rant done. I feel better now.)
Thanks for this!

When people around you just cant "get it" you need to stop hoping you will eventually find support in them, it sucks and its wrong.. But save yourself the grief and look for support elsewhere.. Vent here.. Im sure you can become closer to members here and that will certainly help you feel not alone.

Christina is right as usual. My therapist said to stop setting myself up to be disappointed from my Parents. They will always let me down.

I stopped trying to explain to people, Im just "sick" now when Im not well.

I get the "think positively" a hell of a lot. I have a grateful journal and I CBT just about every negative or anxious thought... yeah dont think I can think more positively than that.... I've gone for months at a time plastering the smile on faking it til I make it.. I can go 6 months before I need to be hospitalised for depression again. Gone through that pattern enough times to know that "thinking positively" is not a cure nore helpful to be constantly told it. Now when I hear it, it triggers madness because I really really tried that and got no where... its so disheartening to hear people minimise my illness by saying I just need to think more positively.
