I need a favour from you wonderful people. I'm about to quit my job, but I want to make sure that my reasons are sound rather than just a knee-jerk, spur of the moment thing.
My job has very unsociable hours. On top of that, there are parts of the job that I know are triggering for me due to the nature of the job (I wouldn't want to elaborate more on that). The pay isn't fantastic and I have definitely felt a decline in my mental health since I started. It has turned into a job which has triggered me in the past. I don't know what I'm going to do next. I have no idea. Financially, it's going to put my in a tight spot for a while until I find something to do with my life. I really just want confirmation that it at least sounds reasonable from fellow bipolar people rather than my improved mood convincing me this is a great idea when it's not.

I wouldn't quit until you have a new job lined up.

You need to get a job lined up. It's very hard to secure a job when you're unemployed, and quitting voluntary would make you ineligible for unemployment compensation.
If you have about 8 months of savings, that is a different story. What other approaches can you take?

Quitting before you have a new job lined up is just recipe for disaster. I know. I've done it before.

Line up a new job before you quit this one.

My daddy always said, it is easier to get another job while you still have one...

Yep that is the truth, get another job first. It is very difficult for prospective employers to want to hire someone who just "quit" for no really good reason. If you were better able to articulate actual reasons, then MAYBE...but usually always better to have something lined up prior to giving notice.

Take it from the bipolar King of quitting jobs and suffering the dysfunction and pain afterward: Don't Do It...until you have something else lined up. Sure you don't like this job and think it may trigger you...but you may have a bigger trigger waiting for you when you go to pay the rent...and can't. Plus, if you up and voluntarily quit you can't draw unemployment in the US.

Having a job at the moment is somewhat forcing you to hold it together, to have a level of functionality. From someone who has quit jobs numerous times, I always crashed afterwards because I could, which made it sooooo much harder to get work again.
I agree with everyone else here, find another job first. You've made the decision to leave your current job, hopefully that will help you cope in the meantime. I wish you well. xx

Thank you for the responses. I'll take it on board since every single one of you said the same thing, maybe it's not a good idea to up and leave. I have to admit that finding a new job is going to be hard.
