everyone was euphorically hypomanic, all the time. What would it look like? How would society be structured? Would it be a more peaceful or less peaceful world? More just or less just? Overall, better or worse? Would you want to live in a world like that?
I think that such a society would be much faster-paced and productive than our current world. People might have more cardiac conditions from the stress and constant (internal and external) stimulation. I think peace would be harder to maintain, because everyone would have the motivation, drive, and energy to fight as hard as possible for whatever cause they support. But I think the inhabitants of this hypothetical hypomanic society would be much more insightful than we are, with a better understanding of science, religion, and philosophy. People would just be more driven on their quests for truth.

Some of them might never finish what they start, jumping from one thing to the next. Brilliant ideas lost because they go on to the next great thing. I think the world Need's those prodding steadfast workers to take the ideas to there conclusions. But it would be nice to live in a place that accepted the manic creativity and did not punish the down times.

faster-paced and productive?
It would probably end up with slower-pace and minimal productivity if they are prone to making poor judgements. Just my thoughts |

Nothing would ever get done. The world would be full of half-done projects.

I can name quite a long list of half-done projects in Prague. Tunnels, subways, buildings that take forever to finish, political promises that never came through. And there is Greece teetering at bankrupcy.... but yet only some of us are labelled "ill" in this effed up world. I guess you have to make bad decisions on greater level to be considered healthy. Overdrawing credit card? Sleeping with stranger? ONOOZ, you are ill, here's your pill. Driving country into bankrupcy and making bad alliences? The world we live in....

I totally agree with this comment. We need the minions to be steady worker bees. It's a delicate balance when you really boil it down.

I imagine that some of the most awesome as well as some of the most disastrous things have happened as a result of mania and mixed states by people with bipolar disorder. I imagine it would ultimately be a very chaotic and destructive world, even more so than now, anyway. I think it is good to have it lightly peppered throughout humanity, though. I've even read some interesting theories that bipolar disorder may have had some advantages in our more primitive days and thus why it was not eliminated by natural selection.
