It helped me but wore out fast so I was switched to one related to it, the Invega Sustenna shot

I am on 6 mg. It stopped most of paranoia that people were watching me, it also greatly decreased the voices I hear, now they are still there but very quiet. It also reduced seeing spiders everywhere.

It is quite sedating but worth it for the benefits I get.

For me it was a life saver. Calmed me down, reduced anxiety, stopped racing thoughts/obsessing, lifted depression.

I had to stop because it spiked my prolactin levels so high it caused all manner of sexual functioning problems.

I suggest you go for bloods every 6 months to monitor prolactin levels. Because an increase is bad for both men and women.

All the best.

Same here.
Within 2 weeks I was lactating so much the milk was running out of my nipples constantly. Horrible.
I had my prolactin levels checked and they were super high. Pdoc took me off of it immediately.

It worked in that it 'broke' my manic episode but it's not something I could stay on long term. It gave me weird muscle spasms and wiped out my personality.

I'm on 2 mg and it's helped greatly with the paranoid hallucinations I was having. I've also noticed that it's helped keep my manic episodes from getting too out of hand. As for side effect, I haven't really had any.

I take it. It helps with aggravation and manic. I gained 50 pounds and I lactate. But the benefits weigh more than the side effects...for me

It helped to dim my rage response significantly and it made the voices stop screaming obscenities at me, but it also caused me to lactate, which was awful.

Except for the extra cup size

I took it for almost a year and it helped with the manic spells. Well several months ago I got an erection that would not go away and it was a painful one well needless to say I had to go to the E.R. And they stuck six needles around the shaft to drain all the blood out. They narrowed it down to either my trazadone or the risperidone so I quit taking all my medications for a little over two weeks. One day I could feel myself becoming manic so I took a risperidone well when I woke up the next day I once again had an erection that would not go away and once again I had to go back to the E.R, to get it drained again. This is the most painful thing I have ever gone through and I have cut my thumb almost in half on a table saw I had fallen off the very top of a semi truck and have broken numerous other bones and I would rather have those happen again than have my junk drained again. Good luck.

I took it at 4mg for 7 months. Good for psychosis mania. A lil sedating, not bad. 6.5 out of 10 stars. Would take again if needed.

I was on dosages ranging from 2-4mg. Had major anxiety/panic attack reactions and the prolactin/lactation problems others have mentioned. Once we figured out the attacks were from the RIisperidone we dropped the dosage and I was on it for several more months. Of the APs and mood stabilizers I've taken this is the one I like best. Only went off because of a medical condition that had to be treated as a priority and those meds didn't play nice with this one.

I took it years ago and it was most helpful for the episodic anger I experienced. It was a ***** to come off of, but probably one of the most helpful of the meds I took then. The reason I stopped taking it was because I gave up on taking all the meds...it was the last one I weaned off of.

How long were you on it for? I found it extremely sedating for the first two weeks then it went away completely.

I told my pdoc I didn't want to go on risperdal because I didn't want to start lactating, and she told me that was very rare, like getting the lamictal rash rare. From reading this thread that doesn't seem to be the case.

My pdoc refused to acknowledge that it had spiked my prolactin levels and destroyed my sex drive. Said it's something that very rarely happens only in women. A quick internet search and you'll see otherwise.

Risperdal is a good med for me but I've switched to the newer version, Invega sustenna. It's easier for me to get an injection once a months, plus safer because even if I decide to ditch meds (or forget to take them for a couple of days) I can't ditch that one so I don't go off the rails. I haven't had a manic episode since I started it a year ago. Doesn't help depression but keeps paranoia and agitation down.

I do lactate though. Only mildly. I also didn't get my period for four months. But I'm afraid to get my prolactin levels tested because I don't want to be taken off of it. I definitely don't want to jump on the med merry go round again.

It does effect Prolactin levels, a lot. I was on 1mg risperidone for 2 years and didn't know why my sex drive wasn't there. I had my dr test my prolactin levels and it was 3x more than normal. I had an mri, no tumor on pituitary gland. It was the risperidone. I've been tapering off of it for 3 weeks now and have been sicker than a dog done. Today is my last day of my lowest dose .25mg. If I'm sick now what's going to happen when it's not in my system at all after today? This is a horrible drug. Oh, and my sex drive is back.
