So on the 23rd July I collected a letter from my mental health clinic. The thing is it's about me needing to have 2 days off from work a week and limiting my hours because apparently I am manic and need to slow down. But in my works eyes I am now more confident, mature and very on the ball compared to my depressive episode. It's now the 28th and I still haven't given it to my boss. I am afraid of what they would say to me. But more afraid of being sectioned as my pdoc mentioned "You're going to end up in hospital". I haven't had a day off in 21 days and I am still going. I will keep on going. All I am doing is covering sickness and my work needs me. I don't want to disappoint them. I am working into my 4th week now.

What do.

Follow your doctor's advice and give the letter to your boss.

Anxiety about a letter
Thanks for this!

Aw roses. Sorry. I think your pdoc might have your well being in mind more than your employer, but it's hard for me to know. Just ask yourself if you think your employer is really over working you.

You seem pretty steady to me. How's your med compliance and sleep going?

If it was me, I would give em the letter. But I super trust my care team and for that matter my employer too.

Hope that helps,

moogs

I have the same issues at my work. I'm a teacher and I get told that working in either manic or depressive episodes can endanger the kids. I submitted my letter to Human Resources. They can't identify your illness directly to your boss but can give them the modifications you need. You need to take care of yourself. Work will go on without you and all will be fine. I missed 31 days last year because of rapid cycling.

Take care of yourself!!! That's the most important thing.

With my meds, I keep forgetting if I have taken them or not, and with sleep...most of the weeks I spent waking up in a cold sweat :/. My parents keep asking me to move out because I an unaware of my surroundings. For instance, misplacing my pill box. I have no idea how I am, but right now I am super pissed at everything. I just want to punch something.

I'd hate to see you reach burn out point and I think that your pdocs are likely right ... if they're recognising some symptoms and pointing them out to you .... that's a LONG time for anyone to work consecutively ..... I'd be erring on the side of caution and possibly handing the letter in before you reach burnout and rather than work 21 days you land up 21 days in a psych ward

I hope you are able to get rest soon. Though you don't feel like you need it, your body does need the rest.

Best of luck!

Is your employer aware you have Bipolar? If so I would certainly give them the letter .. If not .. well then you are probably going to be asked some questions... Yes Hippa laws are there for a reason , for privacy.. But most letterhead from a Doctor will state there speciality, so proverbial cat will pounce outta that bag, maybe not for specific diagnosis , but it will show a MI is there..

It's apparent your starting to unravel.. You need to do what you need to do so that you can avoid needing IP and just taking care of yourself so you don't wind up dealing with physical problems on top of managing your BP problems.

Take care of yourself

What about setting a reminder, in your phone, to take your meds? And taking a picture of your hand with the pill in it.

But for the day-to-day, to make sure you're consistent with it.

I'd recommend turning it in. I worked 33 days in a row not long ago and it's a grind... I did a one month deal off work for ip and iop... Was not cool but was for the best. I kept my job and retained 85% of my pay as well. You should have rights to cover you. I'd also recommend getting fmla if you don't already have it

Please turn in the letter! I was recently hospitalized after doing 70-80 hour weeks for two months. I was manic, and felt fine. But when the mania train stopped, I had the momentum of 100 train cars crash up from behind me. Don't wait 'till it's too late, and you are entitled to complete privacy and protection from retaliation and judgment in your work place. No job, no employer, boss or coworker is more important than you and your health.

Well I've handed in my letter and the results are that I have to work a further two weeks before I could get any breaks

That just doesn't seem right... I work for a corporation where I have fmla. If I have an episode before work. Even during work... No matter what the reason I can say I'm going home.. Can use a total of 12 accumulated weeks a year of it... Which is a ton really.. If I had to go IP or something that's sick leave and counts separately... Just saying in the USA you have your rights through the government that can't be taken from you if you sign up for them... Be a good thing to have
