I am currently and recently was upped to 120mg cymbalta as an antidepressant. I definitely feel better and have been more productive, however I feel like I still need something extra I still have some depression. Any thoughts how to approach my therapist, I do want to keep the cymbalta and don't want to lose that, I definitely feel responsive to it.

What relationship to you have with your therapist? I've never had a problem being honest with mine about things like that. With bipolar they sometimes add extras to get you out of a cycle.

That being said, perhaps you aren't fully titrated to the new dose yet? I'd wait on it.

Our relationship is about 20 minutes of questions and see you in a month. She was really good about one episode I had that I called over the phone and she changed my med after asking me a few questions. I just don't want to lose cymbalta.

So just say that. I do that all the time. Like a few weeks ago I was having a bad side effect and she couldn't do anything until several more weeks had passed so she wanted to lower the dose of my new med. I told her I was scared to lower it b/c I felt better aside from the side effect (which was painful) and so asked if I agreed to deal with the pain for a month if I could take the dose I was on and just know it might cause pain. She was fine with that, just said she didn't want me to suffer. When another side effect happened that was more serious than the muscle rigidity I'd had before she changed things earlier than the month we'd planned so I could stay on the dose I was doing well on and so far so good after just a few days (but she's on vacation so I'm pretty well stuck for now unless I deal with another dr which would be tricky right now).

i have trouble speaking up to my psychiatrist/mental health team
i try to take notes and be straight forward with what i want to say
being honest and open with your doc is good

on the issue of needing something else, what exactly do you feel that you want to "treat" ?
just remnants of depression? anxiety? mania?

if its a bit of depression i would give it a little while longer while your body adjusts to the new dose of cymbalta and if you still feel off explore more options with your doc anyway

I would wait a bit, AD's usually take 3-6 weeks before you feel the full effect of them.

If you then feel you need something else go ahead and talk to her about it. Most pdocs are receptive to med changes or dose changes as long as they trust you being honest with them.

It took me a few months to get out of my last rebound depression. I am still a bit below normal.

Might be the same for you?
