I am currently not taking any medications and am pretty miserable on a daily basis. The problem is I am terrified of gaining any more weight. There was a brief time when my meds we're ok and I was happy and thin but then the Geodon quit working and things went downhill. I was constantly changing meds, gaining weight, and progressively unhappy. I thought quitting would solve the weight problem but seven months med free and I am still up 20 lbs. no amount of mood stabilizer will help if I gain any more weight.
Looking for some hope here. Does anyone stay a normal weight? God I miss the Geodon. |

Put on 20lbs from something on my list over the past few months. Every one of my doctors and such are worried about my weight, but heyyyyy, talk to my meds.
Hard to keep the pounds off if your meds are part of the problem and you can't get yourself out of bed a lot of the time. Not that I eat bad either... Okay, pre-meds I stress ate and such, which didn't help (but I was still at a stable weight) but this is just annoying. There are a few people on her keeping the extra weight off, but for me it's not really in the cards. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

I've been taking Lamictal for the past few weeks. I'm trying to get down about 10 lbs and it sure is a little harder. That being said, I've changed my eating habits to accommodate (i.e. eating all of my calories before 6pm, counting my calories religiously, etc). I haven't had much of a weight gain problem. I also run about 15 miles a week, so that may be a contributing factor.

Both saphris and Latuda showed weight gain in clinical trials. My problem is I work in a professional environment where suits are the norm. Ten pounds means I need a new wardrobe....I can't do that a third time! I have tried everything. Here is my fear: I try a drug gain 5 pounds and determine it isn't wait neutral. I try another one and the same thing happens. Now i am up ten! I am seriously about to give up on all this.

If you're looking for a mood stabilizer, Topamax is weight neutral and has even helped people LOSE weight. I tried it for the lose weight hope- alas, I didn't lose, but I didn't gain. I don't think Lamictal has been a weight gainer for me; it's the seroquel and abilify...

I took zonegran which is like topamax. The side effects were too much. I used to take lamictal and don't know that lamictal alone is strong enough.

My pdoc put my on Benztropine to help stop side effects like weight gain and dry mouth. It took about 3 weeks for it to work but I have lost 4 pounds in two days and I am not craving as much anymore. I gained 20 on Seroquel which is nothing compared to the norm. I didn't even get close to being over weight.

Interesting . There was a time I was on benztropine for the side effects of Geodon. I also took vivance and nuvigel. Who knows what was keeping me thin. But I was happy with my weight. I also took lithium and lamictal.

I've been on a massive number of psych meds and as far as I can tell, there hasn't been a single one that did not cause me to gain at least some weight. I started out underweight...low-weight kid/teen, and when I was 25, even after a pregnancy I weighed 102 and was always trying to gain weight. When I was pregnant with my second child the MD put me in the hospital 'cause I was so thin, and losing weight due to morning sickness.
Then I went on psych meds and gained weight. Some weight, maybe 40 lbs., so I was pretty 'normal' still. When I was 49 (3 years ago) I went on Seroquel and gained 100 lbs within a year. I am finally going off Seroquel, on Geodon instead, and hoping I lose some of the weight. By the way, my eating has always been decently healthy - never binged, for example, or eaten lots of junk food. Ever. The meds just plain cause weight gain. |

I've been on Geodon for 9 months and I've only gained 3lbs. I'm getting off soon. Try it.

I agree with the Geodon experiences ^^^.
I've been taking Geodon for a while now and notice I do not feel starving hungry the way I have with some other psych meds. In fact, the Geodon seems to lessen my appetite. |

Lamictal has been weight neutral for me. I think it is for a lot of people.

I have never gained weight on any of my meds, but trying to loose weight is a different story.

I'm on Saphris and Lamictal, neither of which give me weight issues. I have lost 30lbs since, January , mostly due to diet changes and exercise. Also coming off trilafon I have lost around 20lbs. Drugs that have caused me weight gain, biggest being depakote. That **** was impossible to lose weight on. As well as trilafon. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
