Hi all.
So, I've been on 20mg of Prozac once a day for nearly close to two weeks now. I only missed one day. Anyways...I'm not noticing any difference yet. I am still REALLY depressed and lethargic. So...my question is in the title. How long do I have to wait to see an improvement or any side effects? I see my dr. again on August 31st. I hope it starts to work by then!!! If not, I will have nothing to report to her!

I think prozac is 6 to 8 weeks to build up in your bloodstream.

Took about 4 weeks I think when I was on it. Hang in there!

Yes 6 to 8, and for me that was an unbearable eternity. But the way it goes is that about the time it's working you don't feel like it ever wasnt

For me, it was at least 5 weeks before I could tell a difference. Really doing well on it now.
Thanks, moogs

It took over a month for me, but I knew it would. The Gp described it as having a hill to climb. But it's worth it when it kicks in, because like the previous poster said, it's as if it's always been working, and it's quite sudden. Hang in there!

Prozac strangely works on me within days, if not hours. I am triggered into a mild hypomanic state which lasts for a week or so then I get 'normal' or mixed. It certainly brings me out of depression, and fast. I'm sorry it is taking so long for you to feel the effects. I hope it kicks in soon.

So it ha been like a month and I didn't notice anything really. The doctor agreed to give it another month and I will come off of it if it still doesn't do anything by then.
I noticed since starting it though that I have been having nightmares. Is that a common side effect of Prozac? I get them nearly every night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My experience with anti depressents is you're looking at around 6 weeks before you may begin to notice anything of some sort of significance. Hang in there and hopefully they will start working soon.

It can take time for it to build up before noticing the benefits of it. I've had weight loss surgery. When I was put on new medication my doctor said it would take several weeks to start working. For me it started working in the first week. But I think it's because my stomach is so small. Ever since surgery any medicine I take works usually in less than 15 minutes. |
