I am so tired. Following my mother around as she picks up things around the house, toying with them, yelling for me, and then chasing me down, is very exhausting by the end of the day. I then need to settle her down in order to change her diapers. She is even placing items in her mouth, like a tube of diaper ointment. She has now reached the age of the terrible twos. She throws fits when she does not get what she wants. When she is overwhelmed, she begins wailing with her face in her hands. She is at times very very difficult to manage until she settles down.
I am getting stressed out. I need to increase her Seroquel. I may need to get her an emergency appointment with a pdoc. My mood now swings up and down. I am impulsive and driving recklessly. Not a good sign. Then I get real depressed and refuse to move from the sofa. My daughter helps me where she can, but now she is going back to school. So she has additional responsabilities that are demanding, and I am alone while she is in school. Such is life. Where can I take my mother for an adjustment to her medication? Someone that will see her in short time? The doctor she is seeing works at a public clinic and is booked up. Shall I place her in a psych ward for a med adjustment? This would be a last resort. I doubt if they would take her anyways. Perhaps I can drive her around until she is tired and has settled down? I cooked a cajun dish with chicken and a rick gravy. While I was doing this, which takes allot of effort, my mother was constantly walking into the kitchen for one reason or another. I cannot understand most of what she says. It does not make any sense to me. Then she wanted to go outside to go home. She lives with me. Then she started banging on the door. I had my daughter take her to the next door neighbor, a freind of hers. I ended up making mistakes with my cooking. At least it turned out to be edible. I am so tired! ![]() Tucson PS My Power of Attorney permits me to sign her into a psych ward.

The ER. Put a call into her doctor. Hopefully he/she will meet you there. I've been there. Mom, Seroquel, trying it at home, all of it. xo
ER can transfer her to psych or appropriate facility. Bring that power of attorney. |

There are geriatric psych units that are set up for people with dementia. So if you have to go that route, yes, they will take her.
You are doing a wonderful thing for her. I worked with people with dementia for a long time and the stage you are describing is one of the hardest. It sounds like you are doing a great job, even though it is overwhelming at times.

We used to get people in the nursing homes for respite and sometimes we could throw in a bit of therapy for them if they were starting to have balance issues or falls or whatever. I think it was overall a pretty good experience for most people.

Respite care sounds like a good idea. As a side note, I just have been reprimanded by a mean and unstable neighbor for not sweeping my garage. I continued to be his freind knowing he is not entirely responsible for his actions. Now I will avoid him when I can. A freind that is no longer a freind. Maybe I was never considered a freind by him. I need to avoid unnecessary stressors in my life right now. I have too much on my plate now. Now I need to take a more active role in how I manage stressors in my life. Maybe then I can begin to get some work done around the house. Fortunately for my current meds, I have not unraveled. I want to forget about him.

I am so sorry for all you are going through. It sounds like you have received some very good advise and suggestions. Using more hours for outside care is a good idea going forward. Definately keep your needs and wellness in mind. I'm sorry about your neighbor, I would be sooooo upset if my neighbor attempted to tell me what to do in my own garage.
