We have three dogs (was 4).
We lost our little 13 y/o blind Boston Terrier Winston just a couple of months ago. He was a character and loved by everyone who met him. He was a gregarious and silly guy, but he was brave as a lion and had a huge heart. He was also very sensitive. He was our daughter's dog and he watched her grow up while she watched him grow old. Our oldest boy Fred (sheep/husky) will be 14 in November. He's my hubby's dog and follows him everywhere. He's lovely. Our next oldest is my little princess Sophie, an 8 y/o Boston Terrier. She sleeps inside my hoody in the winter and is so sweet. She was the baby and Mommy's only dog until..... Edgar the usurper. We didn't want her to be alone when Fred dies so we brought Edgar home almost two years ago. He is a Bull Terrier and a holy terror and I love him a ridiculous amount. When I say holy terror I mean I have had dogs all my life, lots of different breeds, know a little about training and I have never met another dog like him. He literally crashed through a wall and busted up the drywall on the bottom half chasing his ball. He has bonded with me very strongly (bullies are very obsessive) and my husband calls him my 65 lb black and white tumour. At night watching TV I have both him and Sophie cuddling parallel to one another on my lap. I crave this cuddle time with them every day and I feel like they help me feel better. My kids are grown and these are my surrogates. I love them all to pieces. We also have a cranky 9 year old cat who bites at random times and who is head over heels with my hubby. She drools on him. She despises Edgar and rarely comes near me because he is usually attached to me in some way. My hubby has a couple of pet snakes Jimmy and Arthur, and my horse Charley completes our family. We are animal poor. All of our money is spent on basics for us and the rest goes to them. We are very tied down and don't go very many places but I wouldn't have it any other way. They enrich my life. How about you? I'd love to hear about your fur babies:-) or feathered babies? Or scales or whatever? Last edited by Edgar's Mom; Aug 25, 2015 at 01:28 AM. |

Tons of animals. Dogs, a cat, a bunch of snakes and a lizard.
I have had animals continuously since I was a young child. They enrich my life as well. |

I have 3 dogs, a cat, and a bird. My dogs are highly trained with one being at the level of a service dog. Though I am not disabled, he has specific tasks he performs when I need him to.
My dogs are the only reasons why I am still here. I love them deeply and will do anything for them.

I have two dogs. Abby is my rock. She is 16. Scooter is only 12 but acts much older than Abby. Both were rescues and I've had Abby for 12 years and Scooter for 5 years. I would be so lonely without them.

Yes the half dead puppy I rescued from a disgusting kill shelter. " Sirius" is the best.
He's 4 now and I can't imagine like without him

I can't imagine life without my pets. My dogs give me a reason to want to come home from work. I'm always greeted by wagging tails and kisses. There's no better feeling. It makes me feel wanted.

We have two cats. We love them, despite how smelly and destructive they can be (our man cat likes clawing the carpeting, and our girl cat has problems and if she's mad at me she pees on my clothes or chews up cords. She's destroyed most of my summer shirts and even mangled our keyboard once.)
My husband and I talked and after these two pass away we're not adopting anymore pets.

I have always had dogs since I was a small child. Now we have 3, had 4 but had to put one to sleep last month. We have one 115 lb. German Shepherd, one 95 lb. German Shepherd, and one 65 lb. German Shepherd/Pit Bull mix, and one Dyson pet hair vacuum cleaner. Plain and simple, if it were not for my dogs I would not be here now.
I have trouble getting out of the house a lot. They really help me that way cause I try to walk them as often as I can at night, we make it maybe 3-4 days out of seven, I would like to go every night but you know... the whole bipolar thing. I also volunteer at an animal shelter 2 hours a week, I wish I could do more but due to anxiety about being in public it's really all I can manage, but it is very rewarding, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for reasons to get up and get out of the house. Pets rock! ![]()

My two cats are spectacular! One of them greets me at the door when I come in.. or a few seconds after I come in she comes trotting out, often meowing at me. Same kitten sorta bolts down the stairs after me if I head to the basement - if she's on time with me then she skids across the floor, if she didn't notice I went downstairs right away then she comes running downstairs and meows like the world is ending.
They're both very snuggly. Snuggly and chatty. I've trained them well. They are also both highly entertaining. They make me feel less lonely at home, and they give me something that I HAVE to do. And they give me a good excuse to talk outloud all the time. Although recently I've noticed that I talk to animals the same way I do babies, and that I talk to my students in a similar fashion just with a different tone of voice, lol!

Have a pitbull who is 3. Even at a young age he's incredibly good with kids and people In general. I'm glad to have a pit that takes away the stigma for people after being around him. They also have a high pain tolerance so if the kids fall on him or our 1 year old pulls his ears hard he doesn't really react. They are also loyal and he's always watching out for the kids. When me and my wife were separated he would sneak up stairs at night and sleep At the door of my daughters bedrooms. It was like he knew it was up to him. He's a champ and a baby all in one. My best dog buddy for sure

Glad this post came up. I'd love to have a dog but my apartment doesn't allow them. Have been thinking about adopting a kitten. Anyone have any advice on how to train them right.

I have my ponies. Over 40 horses under my care. My family expands soon with the adoption of goats and ex cage hens. My horse gets the most attention and is the most cuddly and needs me more than any other. She kept me going and I'll look after her in her retirement.

I am not a dog person.....but I do love cats.
I don't have one right now because I can't at the place where I live. But, my last cat, Sophie, was so funny.....very high maintenance for a cat....wanted attention and loving all the time....made every step I made. I adored her and hated to give her up.

What kind of things are you wanting to train? I have taught my cat to sit, down, paw, wave, roll over, and spin both ways. He also knows that he is not allowed on tables or counters.

Two dogs 6 y/o, one cat 5 y/o. They pretty much grew up together. The dogs are brother and sister 3/4 Shih tzu 1/4 Pug mix. My female adopted the cat because he was a rescue and almost died before he was hospitalized. When he came home she stayed by his cage (he was too tiny to run around the house), then when he was out and about she followed him around. They groom each other. My male dog and the cat tease and chase each other. The dogs are pretty mellow and love everyone, the cat hides when people come to the house. My female is a little dog with a big attitude. She has no idea she's as small as she is.

Yep, I have cats and a wonderful rat. I adore my precious pets, however, I also worry obsessively about them getting sick, suffering, and dying. My fear of that can actually become delusional. If I could have one wish it would be not to worry about my animals the way I do so I could completely enjoy them.

My parents' two cats helped a lot when I was younger, especially one of them in particular. It's a lot harder now that I don't live with them, but it helps a bit to see them once a week. I want to adopt a cat of my own, but I can't afford if right now...

I got my cat about eight years ago. Fancy has been a headache ever since, but I love her. For the most part she's well mannered and stays to herself, but starts purring the moment she sees me. Since we moved to my new house, we've re-bonded (if that's a thing) and now are close again. She's right behind the door waiting for me when I come home, sits in front of my bedroom door until I get out of bed, and will definitely let me know when she wants treats or to be fed! I almost gave her away during a depressive phase, because I just couldn't deal at the time, but I'm glad I didn't. It's been me and her ever since and the only being that sticks by my side no matter how crazy I get.

(Spelling?) Shih Tzu Dog - Puts a smile on my face more than a few times every day. We had two others before this one, and due to the painful loss, didn't think we would get another. Before marriage I loved and had German Shepherds which I also loved very much. Sad part of that the Shepherd slept at the foot of my bed every night, until my wife moved in. I hated having to move him outside, but we lived on 65 acres. I know it broke his heart. The dog and my wife never liked each other, but the dog and my small daughter were great. If you wanted an attack dog, he would do it, but in a big way, due to liability, I was glad when I was released from the responsibility. Love your dog cause they love you.
