So I have never experienced psychosis, been diagnosed for eight years now. I was taken off Seroquel a few months ago because my pdoc figured I didn't need it because I don't experience psychosis. I've been very stable, besides the sleeping issues, until recently. For about a month I started going high low everyday. Then the past two weeks I went into a depression. Depression is very unusual for me, I swing on the high side.

Here's what happened. Last night I'm going to bed, sleep meds were not in effect yet, and I start hearing this horrendous noise. It sounded like someone was dragging furniture on my roof and it sounded like a bowling alley, super loud. I turn off everything so it is completely quiet, and start poking around the house and looking outside. I'm looking at my dogs thinking they should be barking like mad at this. This lasted for about fifteen minutes. So I thought maybe thunder? So I brushed it off. I go to work this morning and it happens again. I keep looking at my co-workers to see if they are reacting, nothing from them. I of course don't say "hey are you hearing this?" So now I'm worried, just slightly because I try not to over analyze my BP. Is this possibly psychosis? I thought psychosis is voices? I see my pdoc Wednesday and don't know if I should say anything. Sorry this went on and on like a book, I'm very detailed, it's annoying. Thanks everyone

Hi Blacksheep79. I have Bipolar II as well as CPTSD with Psychotic Features. Any paranoia I have or psychosis - which is exactly like you described - is usually attributed to the CPTSD by the psychiatrist. However your post reminded me it's also from Bipolar II. I guess it comes from both but the treatments needs to suit it either way. I can't even go down from my high doses of Seroquel by 100mg and I get an escalation of the paranoia and psychosis. I can't say which meds you should take but this is my experience.
Thanks for this!

If you're taking trazodone for sleep, that caused a lot of auditory hallucinations for me.

It could be that the seroquel was masking an underlying psychotic process that had been festering.

Are you on Wellbutrin? I just learned that's another one that can cause hallucinations.

My pdoc doesn't know whether my psychosis is med induced, hypomania induced, or a product of schizoaffective. So I'm kind of not in-the-know right now either. But I have had hallucinations that are just sounds, not music or voices, though I get those too...although not very often.

Basically addressing everyone that responded. Since coming off of Seroquel the pdoc had to continuously add meds because I can't sleep. First, Trazadone, then Clonidine, and then the Hydroxizine. It's either the Clonidine or Hydroxizine (I think the Hydroxizine) that causes me to wake up all night having hallucinations. I just got up and I can remember at least three last night, that was a good night. The reason I questioned this situation is because I had literally just taken my meds and then it happened again at work. I've never experienced it like this, and my sleep hallucinations are never sounds, I see animals, bugs, people, and crazy creatures.

I appreciate your feedback and experiences, thanks.

I could be wrong but I would think anyone valnurable who had been taking an AP for some time and was removed could have a rebound effect.

I would be pissed if a psychiatrist did this to me.

I sometimes have auditory hallucinations and they are not voices but noises more often, or a single words shouted or whispered. I don't have them very often and I usually have them in cluster with visual hallucinations. I usually see people.

So for example I might see a person who isn't there, then a day or two later hear something, then see something again. Then I won't experience it again. Sometimes the clusters come close together or far apart.

My most common auditory hallucination is very loud footsteps of someone walking behind me.

I was originally put on Seroquel years ago by another pdoc I think to help with mood and sleep. I came off it before but went mixed and after several APs that I was allergic to or bad reaction (Latuda) he put me back on it. I wanted to come off of it because it caused me to have diabetes. He figures because I don't experience psychosis let's give it a try. I see him tomorrow, so I guess I will see what my options are, if any.

I just got back from my pdoc. He put me on 40mg of Geodon. He said that I was hearing things and I am having paranoia. He said like RisuNeko said, me being on APs before was masking the fact that I would have had psychosis without them. I was thinking about it and I have been on an AP almost the whole time I was diagnosed eight years ago. My BP has became worse over the years until the past year. I hope Geodon works, especially for my sleep and thank goodness it's weight neutral. I've heard a lot of people say good things about it on PC.

Thanks everyone

Hello Everyone

I just want to say this thread was very good for me. I have psychosis and it can last for a long time with or without meds. It's triggered mainly by stress and anxiety just like my manic episodes so that's why I think they are not relieved fully by medication. My main auditory hallucination is the footsteps behind me which probably occur several times a week. Visually, I always see the same panting black dog or at night I sleep with the light on in the hall because I always see a dark figure standing in my door. I also hear voices, particularly a male voice who tells me to do things but that's when I'm really bad off. So I feel very relieved to know I'm not the only one who has psychosis and can talk about it with someone.

Thanks everyone

I'm glad this helped you out. My pdoc mentioned today at my appointment what you said about anxiety. I can't imagine going through what you described. I was terrified just by the incident I had the other day. It's nice when you know you are not alone.

I was thinking about this today, actually since it started. I've noticed that when I was getting towards the end of coming off of Seroquel a few months ago and since then, that I see things out of the corner of my eye. It will happen a couple times a day for a few days and then doesn't happen for awhile. I know that your eyes can play tricks on you, but this was happening a lot. I just had my eyes examined in February, so it's not that. Does anyone have this? I'm trying not to over analyze, but understand if this is part of psychosis. I forgot to bring this up to my pdoc today.

I take geodon and it is all I take other than my sleep meds. It's a great drug. But I couldn't take my morning dose, made me too tired. So I take my full dose right before bed and it has been a really good drug for me. Hope it's as good for you.
