I swear by my night meds. seroquel 100mg and risperdal. 4mgs. As well as the rest of my cocktail. I was hospitalized for a diff reason months ago and the dr thought it was absurd that I was on two different antipsychotics. I was also wondering if the doses I'm on are kinda high?

The seroquel is not high at all, honestly it's on the lower side. The risperdal seems high to me only bc I was on 1mg, so it's high compared to me. I've only ever been on one AP at a time. Multiple mood stabilizers and anti depressants but only one AP.

My pdoc increased my risperdal for aggressive behavior and I literally have the tolerance of a horse and I'm a tiny 100lbs! So pretty much every time I go in, something gets increased.

I was on two at once but one is PRN. I took Abilify daily to treat and prevent psychosis but Hadol, a stronger anti-psychotic, was added once I started hearing distressing voices. I still have the Haldol PRN but haven't needed it in months. I no longer take the Abilify as once I became well, I was adamant that I be weaned off of most of my 7 medications. My pdoc obliged and even concurred. It was maybe the greatest thing that has happened to me in recent history as I not only remained well but also gained so much energy and awareness.

At another point I did take both Ablify and Saphris at the same time. Although my prescribing pdoc was certain they had different effects (and I can't remember what they were), I was once advised by another pdoc that they were at least redundant.

I also took both Abilify and Geodon at the same time but that was short lived due to Geodon's side effects.

Personally, I think I was on two at a time simply because my pdoc added and added medications instead of weaning and trying another. In the year and a half I saw her, I was weaned off of nothing but had numerous medications added to my cocktail.

Among other meds I'm on a regular/medium dose of Invega Sustenna and then a small dose of Zyprexa.

I'm on 2 sorta 60 mg latuda and 50 mg seroquel. The seroquel is to counter the insomnia side effects.

I was on 2 this summer but had muscle stiffness and uncontrolled oral motor movements from the 2nd so had to come off it. Now I still probably need a 2nd but most of the ones my insurance covers are likely to cause the same syndrome that I had to come off the one this summer for. I may be going on Rexulti or cariprazine, both of which are very new, because my psychiatrist can get samples of those. She can't get samples of older drugs because of policy at the hospital where I go. But cariprazine has a high risk of the same syndrome and Rexulti isn't great for the same risk. So I don't know. We think I really need to come off Seroquel because I'm on a high dose (very high) and it's not working like it used to but what to try is a very big question.

Avoiding trying another old drug or the new drugs is one of the reasons I'm possibly doing ECT.

I looked it up and 1-6 mg is the target dose of risperdal for bipolar so you're pretty much in the middle. And as others said 100 mg of Seroquel is quite a low dose, often prescribed for sleep more than for full antipsychotic effect.

2 APs are NOT FUN though so hopefully someday you won't need both.

I've been on 2 APs for the past year and a half. Before that I was on Geodon alone for another year and a half. I have hand tremors but otherwise I'm doing very well on my current regimen. I'd like to come off one of them eventually though---I don't think staying on 2 APs forever is healthy.

I guess I'm on two now, but one is just a PRN. Not sure if that counts.
