So, I used to love coffee, every morning and afternoon. It never seemed to effect me negatively. Now, all the sudden it's making me anxious, and nervous. I drank a small black coffee this morning before going into a job orientation where we watched videos for 2hrs in a small room. I felt like I was panicking and my heart was racing, I was thinking about getting up and going outside. I didn't have ativan. Luckily, it went away after about 25min..
this is very frustarating because coffee is one of the last things I could still enjoy, and now I might have to give it up. Maybe, I should take an ativan with it. Or maybe I should just drink decaff. Or just put alot of cream in it.
Idk.. why is this happening?

how does coffee/caffeine effect you?

When I smoked cigarettes, I can drink pot after pot. But now that I don't smoke, I can only handle a cup or two before I get the jitters. I found that interesting.

Coffee can sometimes do this to me too. I try to limit myself to one cup a day, decaf if more than a few days in a row.

Sometimes I'll go a week or so without to detox a bit.

Hope you're feeling better!

My job is mentally exhausting, and I'm not always able to hit the ground running in the morning. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I relied on sodas and sometimes energy drinks to get me over the morning hump. I know they're bad for me, but sometimes I'm just that desperate. Now that Wellbutrin has been added to the cocktail things are different. It does give me more energy, however, it takes a few hours for it to happen. So by 11 or 12 I'm good fore the rest of the day. No 3pm slump or anything, so that's when I get to catch up on everything since I now slack in the morning. When completely groggy in the mornings, I have tried sodas, but now I sometimes get headaches and so I'm trying to avoid them unless absolutely necessary. It's so hard...

Hmmm... I wonder why all the sudden, out of the blue, coffee would just cause you bad anxiety like that. Are you sure that it really was coffee that was the culprit? Do you think maybe it wasn't the coffee but the new job orientation? I know I get anxiety pretty bad when I have a job interview or orientation, even if it is just watching videos.

If it really was the coffee that was causing the anxiety, switching to decaf might be a good idea, along with the other ideas you suggested.

Me, I am very caffeine sensitive but I love coffee, especially my morning cup. I go to the coffee shop every morning after I take the kids to school and drop the hubby off at the train station. I always get a small because if I have more than that, I will feel all jittery. Sometimes I will have a small cup or two spaced out later in the day also. Before I was on seroquel, if I drank a cup, say after 8pm, I would be up all night long. Every once in a great while I'll have an energy drink during the day but I don't drink sodas at all. I hate that jittery feeling that causes unneeded anxiety.

it could of worsened the anxiety from it. But, this happened the other day when I got starbucks in the afternoon and drank it while I was home. So idk.. its annoying. both times they were black.. i cant get up without coffee. I like going to the coffee shop. i read somewhere on here guy cant drink coffee after his last mania. maybe it has something to do with my last episode. maybe its from the medication.

I love coffee, but for some reason after my manic break I can't drink it as much. I used to drink it all day, every day. Now I just have a cup in the morning after I eat breakfast.

I mentioned this on another post but when I am depressed I can drink a ton of coffee and it barely does anything to me. When I am properly medicated and stable, I can only have a regular sized cup or I get jittery.

Coffee consumption is an excellent indicator of my mood. When I'm depressed I drink a cup a day. When I'm stable it's two. When I'm hypo it's two-- pots.

You should Google the name of your medication and caffeine. I'm wondering if it is enhancing a side effect of your medication.

Personally I'm ADHD on top of bipolar so I can drink a half a pot of coffee and go to bed right after. It's never really affected me.

It's funny you ask, because this morning I skipped my usual large coffee and went straight to work. I work in a school, so it is almost impossible to get up a cup while you are there. By lunchtime, I had a terrible headache, and by the time I got home I felt sick to my stomach. You'd think I wouldn't be so dependent on one coffee per day, but I guess you can be. Aside from that, I often feel a great deal of anxiety after drinking a cup and have to take my anxiety medicine to calm down. If you think about it, it doesn't make sense to drink coffee, as delicious as it is.

I love coffee. I'm trying to wean off of it a little because I have a hard time sleeping, but it has never counteracted with my meds or make me feel anxious.

Same here. I used to drink 3 cups a day or pop stackers or drink energy drinks with no problem. Now my one cup in the morning makes my heart pound and gives me the jitters.

Personally, I can't function without coffee no matter what. I've tried to stop drinking it, but when I do, I feel irritable, withdrawn, and I have difficulties functioning in society.

With that being said, I do have to cut down during mania. During mania, I limit myself to one cup a day, however during mixed states, I increase my limit to 2-3 cups and during depressive phases, I will drink as many as 5-6 cups a day because coffee helps offset my low mental energy and focus issues and even helps me feel less depressed when I'm in a depressive state.

Coffee is my best friend, but I'm different from the norm. You see, not only am I bipolar, but I have ADD too. This means when I pop my morning pills there's an Adderall in there and I wash it all down with coffee, and when I get jittery I go and get a coffee to calm down. It's always been that way for me. Weird, huh?

Coffee only in the morning or my stomach goes crazy and I can't sleep in the evening.

I used to like coffee but my body is telling me "don't you dare".

I just had some put more cream in it. I didn't get that really anxious feeling. It's funny coffee used to give me the opposite effect. Not anymore..

I quite drinking caffeine about 6 or more years ago and I think I'm better off. I used to love caffeine but ever since I went "nuts" it isn't the same.

I figured that long ago if I can't sleep why am I drinking caffeine and I stopped It.

Energy drinks have taurine in it which is a kinda like a mood stabilizer and takes the edge off all the caffein. Just a random rid bit.
