I have different ones to choose from too. I also have simple kids coloring books because sometimes I cant handle the detailed madalas or tapestry type pictures.

Awesome. I just rounded up my colored pencils, crayons and coloring books into one area so I know where they all are. Organization makes for a calmer mind.

I really enjoyed mandalas in IP. I've been doodling a bit more lately, I find drawing/coloring really soothing. Plus it helps to make something tangible with my time. :- )

When I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital that gave me high anxiety I found myself coloring a lot to distract myself and calm my mind down. Very soothing.
Thanks for this!

My son colours with me and hes an adult. We find it calming and bonding time as i dont see him very often.

So I wanted to order one of the adult coloring books - but then remembered I am AWFUL at coloring! Like - unbelievably bad! I went and looked at the different books, and I think I'm going to try it - but has anyone ever felt anxiety over just the thought of having to color or am I losing it again over something trivial that no one is even making me do?!?!

I don't think you're losing it-- and I don't think you're probably nearly as bad at coloring as you think you are. You needn't have any expectations about how your pieces come out because no one else will see your work unless you choose to share it-- and I'd guess your anxiety might be coming from the idea (even if subconscious) of having to share it-- which you don't.

No! When I am in a bad episode or just dealing with some stuff...coloring difficult or detailed pictures are too much for me to deal with. That's when I get out my kids coloring book (like Disney) and work in it. I let myself not color perfect. Its a great way to relax without all the "rules" of coloring. When I was IP once, anything was too much for me-mixed episode. A bad one too. And even putting dishes in the dishwasher or coloring a pictures would make my anxiety level sky high and Id cry.
Thanks for this!

I have several different coloring books that I use. They mainly have a nature theme to them. They are a type of mindfulness meditation that helps me with anxiety. I also do puzzles for this reason. When I do the coloring and puzzling I'm taken far away and have the ability to concentrate on myself. It's also something I'm good at so I enjoy it for that reason too...accomplishment. Glad to hear others are taking it up 😀
